Re: Dancing In The Dark (Reply to this comment)
by Theabee
Hey, I haven't even ever seen this one again because it still would be too upsetting for me. But one day I would like to. I don't believe that it was based on a true story, however, I know that it was true that there were these towns of immigrants who worked in factories and were treated pretty harshly. But I was surprised that Bjork was such a good actress.
Cheers,
Thea

Dancing In The Dark (Reply to this comment)

I've not seen this one, but I'm sure I would both cry and be outraged! Was that based on a true story?
Hugs!

Well, Klaxon_Oil, I don't think it is really fair that you gave me a "helpful" rating because you disagree. It would be like rating "helpful" on a review that said that Loreal Shampoo is good, when you thought it was bad. I didn't put Cuckoo's Nest because it did not make me cry. I'm not saying it wasn't a great movie, I really like it, but no tears welled out of me, that's all. Thanks for reading though.

One flew over the cukoos nest sorry but that's one of the greatest films in my mind ever made. And, in fact that's why I gave the helpful sorry but in my mind Nest should replace stepmom as being a tear jerker at the top. Then again don't want to start a flame war so sorry if it weighs a little heavily on you.

Thanks msmorvay, although Armagedon never quite did it to me. Thanks for reading.

Good list! (Reply to this comment)

I would have to say I cried in just about all of those as well. The one movie that always gets me is Armagedon when Bruce Willis gives his life to save the world, and especially his daughter, then they play the song by Liv Tylers real Dad at the end, it just gets me. Great job!

Salut, Thea!
Guys like me (if there are any) cry at very different movies: at the original "Star Wars", I cried when Obi-wan's spirit called to Luke, "Use the Force, Luke! Let go!" and Luke turned off his X-wing computer & shot the Death Star! Glorious!
"Lawrence of Arabia" always makes me cry because it's so incredibly perfect & beautiful (esp. on a big screen). But that's just me. : )
Boo-hoo!

Great list!! Regarding "Boys Don't Cry", your words ("...just so disturbing to me that even though this was a great movie, I could never see it again") perfectly echo my sentiments. I *had* to show this movie to my wife and it was so hard to watch again. Absolutely brutal performances all around, and Swank fully earned that Oscar.
If you like three-hanky movies (and don't mind subtitles), you need to check out a Chinese movie called "To Live" with Li Gong. This is the only movie that makes me cry like a baby every time I've seen it (even though I know what's coming!).
