The Bottom Line Uh oh, more stuff about me...so malu :/
Well, here it is, another W/O popping up shortly after Corpgent's highly successful "20 or so facts about me" W/O in April. Ok, let's get on with it :) 1. How long have you been a member of Epinions? I've been a member of Epinions since late 2000, but always had some trouble posting articles. I left the site, forgot about it for at least 6 months, then received an email saying that my account would be disabled if I didn't log back in. That was what brought me back, and I'm happy to say I started writing reviews at that point :) 2. What do you do for a living? For the first time, I'm self-employed - my family owns a small bar here in New Orleans, and aside from doing inventory, I also bartend a few nights a week. Everyone is so surprised to find out that I don't drink, but I just never really liked the taste of alcohol after all... 3. Favorite food? Hmm...this is a tough one. Before finally going to Singapore, I would've probably said pizza. Now, however, I know there's just amazing food over there. Some of my favorites include: Hokkien Mee Satay babi (pork satay) Chicken teriyaki Chinese carrot cake (great breakfast dish) and Zhang - triangles of glutinous rice wrapped in banana leaves 4. Most embarrassing moment? I think I gave my most embarrassing moment in Corpgent's W/O, so let me see...Ah yes. When I was much younger (around 8 or 9), I really liked this Japanese girl (Wendy) who went to church with our neighbors. I met her at their church, but was very shy at the time. Well, she ended up coming over to play with our neighbors, and I was outside playing with another one of my friends. She came over to talk to me, and I was so shy, I climbed up the nearest tree, and wouldn't come down for 10 minutes. 5. What are your favorite topics to write about on Epinions? Seems like my main focus is music reviews. They were quite difficult when I first started writing them, but it has gotten easier with practice. I also enjoy writing about computer-related items (software and hardware) - I should try to write some more of these reviews soon :) 6. Name a few things that you cant stand whatsoever: People who can't tolerate others simply for who they are. Long lines / waiting on hold forever / heavy traffic Computer issues that should have an easy solution, but nothing seems to fix the problem (I'm going through this right now, so I know...*grrr*) Telemarketers and others who have a very pushy personality and do whatever it takes (car salespeople come to mind) to get you to agree with them or try to sell you something. 7. Hobbies? Computers (I've been using them since around 1982) Martial Arts (Japanese Jujitsu and Aikido) Playing guitar and bass (and piano once in awhile) 8. What kind of car do you drive? What color is it? 2001 Saturn L300 in dark blue. 9. Worst time you got into trouble when you were a kid? No comment :) Seriously, I can't remember most of the bad stuff I did as a kid...I just know I was pretty spoiled, so I didn't get in trouble all that often... 10. Have you ever been on TV? If so, what for? I was in frame for about 3 or 4 seconds on Chubbs' Antique Roadshow. My mom and sister were the main people on the segment, but they happened to catch me too :) 11. What kind of music do you like to listen to? Pretty much anything except really hardcore rap and twangy country music. My favorite is 80's music - synth pop. I've always been into metal, but lately it's metal/techno via Germany...Rammstein is currently my favorite band. 12. What CD would your friends be surprised that you own? Hmm....I'd have to say either "The Simpsons Sing the Blues" or Nickelodeon's "Ren and Stimpy - You Eeeediot!" 13. Shoes or sandals? Sandals as often as possible -- which means pretty much all the time, unless I'm going for an interview, or going to the gym. If they don't allow sandals, that's when I wear shoes :) 14. Where do you buy most of your clothes? I tend to like Levis jeans, so I usually get those at JCPenney. But otherwise, I do like the stuff at Old Navy. 15. Have you ever met any famous people? If so, who? When still in high school, I managed to get on Rockline and got to talk with James Hetfield and Kirk Hammet of Metallica. Luckily they delay the radio broadcast by a few seconds, cos I was so excited to get to talk to them that I accidentally said a curse word while greeting them ;) One summer, I was invited to an Economics camp at Nicholls State University, and we got to meet Dave Thomas (founder and owner of Wendy's.) It was a very casual meeting, and we all got to speak with him individually at different times. Naturally, the food at that seminar came from Wendy's ;) During my college days, our student activities council managed to get Carrot Top while he was still doing the college tour scene (and not yet doing horrible movies and AT&T ads.) The show was free, but I did go up to meet him at the end when I purchased one of his shirts for $10. Also during college, I was in a forum class one year - we had to attend 7 out of the 10 forum events, each with a noted speaker. Two that I remember were (at the time) member of the British Parliament, Tony Blair. Also Tabitha Soren of MTV fame, who was doing the "Choose or Lose '96" college tour (I got to meet her in person.) This isn't so much a case of "meeting", but...I went to Blind Melon's final show, where the lead singer died not long after the show of a drug overdose. We saw the band's RV as we left... Les Claypool of Primus fame actually came to our club last year during Jazz Fest to see Afroskull playing there that night. Since he's a big bass hero of mine, I got to talk with him for a few minutes. He signed the only thing I had at the time - a $5 bill. Then he asked if I was one of the owners of the club. I told him I was, and he said "Oh that's really cool....this is a great place!" :) 16. What are your favorite TV shows? At all times: ESPN/ESPN2 - Anytime during football season, or if I can catch a replay of a classic game. 70's: It Takes a Thief, All In The Family, Fawlty Towers, Monty Python's Flying Circus, Doctor Who (mainly Tom Baker and Peter Davison.) 80's: M*A*S*H (final year of the series, then in reruns), Night Court, Newhart, Cheers, L.A. Law, The Simpsons 90's: With all the dreck of shows like Friends, Melrose Place, Beverly Hills 90210...I don't think there were many new shows I liked. Here are a few that I did (and still do) like however: Frasier, Seinfeld, Everybody Loves Raymond, Jackass, South Park, and I'm sure there are a few more that just aren't coming to mind now :) Well, there you have it - Another 16 factoids about me.
