I'm an anime girl myself! (Reply to this comment)
by kae_lin
Of course aside from my hockey life my "other" life revolves in the world of anime I have absolutely ADORED it all my life...those are the ONLY animations/cartoons worth watching, indeed the story lines are tens, even thousands more better than anything else. I also *despise* (sorry for the lack of better term) americanized anime...i am simply happy in it's japanese form with the subtitle..to prove how much I love anime I even studied japanese in school! (sono toori desu yo, anime ga totemo suki desu kara!)
The japanese-anime way of thinking and coming up with stories are simply spectacular...if there is any place for a review on any particular anime I'd be glad to write on that bec the thing that got me into anime is ESCAFLOWNE (the series) I love it and will ALWAYS love it!
Other than that the MUSIC is also something worth hearing (part of the reason i studied japanese is so I can appreciate the CONTENT of the lyrics too)and words won't be enough to describe the sheer joy I experience after watching an anime that really touched my heart.
SO there..thanks for reading this ^_^ and thanks also for the rating on my ice hockey skates goodies ^_^

Glad i checked this list out - i don't get a lot of anime reviews wandering into my life. Given what i know of my tastes, Love Hina and Ghost in the Shell seem like the places to start... my Netflix queue is long, but i'll let you know what i think when i get to them! Thanks.
cheers,

Princess Mononoko (Reply to this comment)

Didn't Disney buy the rights to this and promptly bury it, simply because it was ten times better than any of the stuff they've released over the past 10 years? Figures.
A great list that I forget to comment on when I originally rated, can't understand how Akira isn't in there, and I also agree that subtitled versions of these films rule. Stay away from the dubbed copies people!

The only thing I would add was is weather you can find it on DVD or VHS in America. I know some of the best Anime is only on Video CD in Asia.

Yes Subtitles is the best way to go. Im a BIG anime fan, i just dont review em. I still think Ninja Scroll and Akira are the greatest, and ive seen the Initial D episodes, but not the movie, so ill have to check it out. Nice List

subtitled is the way to go!! (Reply to this comment)
by kaeina
Definitely try to get the subtitled versions if you can{a lot of the dvd's you can chose}.
I can't put my 10 favourites in any particular order, But It goes like this:
#1- Akira {The Grandfather of 'em all}
#2- Ghost in the Shell{Great blend of classical and 3d animation, but is missing a lot of the story because of time constraints}
#3- The Grave of the fireflies{very touching story}
#4- Blood the last the Vampire{one of the better new animations I have seen, and the vampires rock}
#5- Robo Tech {What can I say, It's a classic}
#6- Berserk
#7- Hellsing
#8- Battle Angel
#9- Galaxy Express 999{this is the first anime I ever saw. I been in love with the genre ever since}
#10- Mahoromatic {It may take a few episodes to get into but it really is funny}

No, I love Perfect Blue! Dark, twisted movies have a deep appeal with me. I also like Akira. Like I said this is only one top 10 list. I plan on writing more. Thanks for the tips though.

A great list. But where is Akira? Surely that is one of the best, if not greatest, anime of all time. I'm surprised you didn't give Perfect Blue a mention also, but maybe that's just too deep and surreal for your tastes. Good work.

Heh, I'd be lying if I said that Initial D didn't give me any inspiration to street race.
