If you follow the computer game industry at all, you know that this is one of the most eagerly anticipated games to come out for years. So when I got my hands on it, let me tell you, I was stoked!
Now, I've only played through the first 4 levels or so, but I've played enough to be able to tell you how awesome this game really is.
The story line starts with police going after Max Payne in New York, why? We don't know yet. So... the story takes us back a couple years to actually play out the events that led up to the present. It all starts with Max Payne coming home after a hard days work on the police force to find his house in shambles, and his wife and kid missing. Your family ends up dead, and Max wants revenge!
So you play through a big story line killing lots of bad guys all the way back up to the present.
Now the thing about this game I really wanted to talk about is the gameplay. There are a couple things that make it so innovative. First, there is the slow motion matrix dives, you push a button and everything goes into slow motion, and you can dive, left, right, forward, or back, and still aim your gun as you dive. Secondly you can make everything go into this same sort of stop motion, or in the game what is called bullet dodging mode and wreak havoc in slow motion. These features are put very well into the game, and make for a truely intense gaming experience.
As any first person shooter you have most your basic weapons such as duel berreta's, desert eagle, sawed off shotgun, pump action shotgun, and a couple other big guns, and also grenades and molotov cocktails.
One thing the developers could have spent a little more time on in this game is the enemy AI, sometimes they will shoot eachother or see you when their back is turned. But all in all, it's not that bad. The controls are basically the same as halflife if you've played that, if not, they are very easy to pick up in the tutorial.
One last thing, this game requires some heavy machinery, personally I would reccomend a PIII or higher with a decent video card to play this game. But trust me, it is worth it, this is one of the best games out in a long time, and will be fun to play for months.
