The Self Indulgence Continues… (Prelude99's 16 Questions W/O)

May 11 '03    Write an essay on this topic.

The Bottom Line The Bottom Line doesn't want to live the rest of its life like a schnook.

In the wake of corpgent's extraordinarily popular 20 Things About Yourself W/O, we have another write-off on our hands. Check out this link for more details. I can't resist crashing a good party, so here goes.

1. How long have you been a member of Epinions?
Since December of 1999 when I was a freshman in college. I'm old school.

2. What do you do for a living?
Right now, I am a college student, but in just two weeks, I'll be unemployed and living at home. Oh, joy!

3. Favorite food[s]?
Chinese and Thai

4. Most embarrassing moment?
When my friends hired me a stripper for my 20th birthday. My mom making obscene hand gestures while performing "Start me up" at karaoke is a distant second.

5. What are your favorite topics to write about on Epinions?
Clearly, writing about myself.

6. Name a few things that you can't stand whatsoever:
-People who are stubborn, ignorant, bigoted, lazy, inconsiderate, boring, greedy, materialistic, and/or humorless
-Cold weather
-Giant SUVs that (to paraphrase Lynyrd Skynyrd) ain't good for nothin' but puttin' the environment six feet in the hole. See millinocket's Friday Night Rambling for some excellent thoughts on this subject.
-The New York Yankees
-having to stay indoors on a nice day
-making the same mistake twice
-George W. Bush and everything he stands for

7. Hobbies?
-Slo-pitch softball
-Going for bike rides
-Drinking in pubs
-Karaoke
-travel
-walking in parks and cemeteries
-people watching and gossiping
-being silly

8. What kind of car do you drive? What color is it?
I don't have a car 'cos I'm in college. Cars are completely unimportant to me anyway. I'll probably get one after I graduate, but, as long as it gets me where I need to go, make and color are irrelevant.

9. Worst time you got into trouble when you were a kid?
I was a pretty good kid, but I used to get in trouble for talking back to teachers and talking in class. When I was in fifth grade, the lunchroom aides used to flick the lights on and off to try to get the kids to quiet down. I told them that they shouldn't do that because it was a waste of electricity since the lights were fluorescent and they take a really long time to heat up. Wow, that was a lame story. Let's see... I punched a kid in the mouth once because he destroyed the snowman I made at recess, but I can't remember if I got in trouble for that.

10. Have you ever been on TV? If so, what for?
-Yes, my junior year in high school, I took a course in TV Production and the teacher chose me and another kid to host an educational TV program that travels around to different high schools. We spent about 7 hours taping it, and I was only on screen for about 5 minutes!
-When I was a little kid, I think someone interviewed me about being a Red Sox fan, but I don’t really remember that. Then, when I was on the Grounds Crew at Fenway Park*, I was on TV a couple of times when they showed us rolling out the tarp during rain delays. Luckily, the time that I slipped and fell did not make it on the air.

11. What kind of music do you like to listen to?
All kinds of stuff. These days, it's mostly classic rock, BritPop, '80s stuff, and Cher. I like music that's dramatic.

12. What CD would your friends be surprised that you own?
Nothing I do or own surprises my friends, but they were horrified to learn that I own the country artists sing the songs of the Eagles album.

13. Shoes or sandals?
I prefer to be barefoot, but sandals will do.

14. Where do you buy most of your clothes?
Old Navy and its parent company, Gap. I even own stock in Gap, Inc, so y'all should shop there, too.

15. Have you ever met any famous people? If so, who?
Working for the Red Sox, I met a lot of baseball players, coaches, and broadcasters, or if not met them, at least saw them up-close. Cal Ripken's eyes are so beautiful that I almost impaled myself on the rake I was running with. I've also met a few basketball players, since I know someone who works for the Boston Celtics. I got my picture taken with George Muresan, the now-retired 7'7" center. At 5'2", I came up to his hip.
My mom is a minor celebrity since she writes children's books, such as Me and the Weirdos. My dad wrote a book on teaching science to elementary school kids. Also...
-Marisa Tomei
-Bob Baliban
-Richard Dreyfuss
-Doris Kearns Goodwin
-Five for Fighting (a band)
- OK Go
- Jeffrey Maier (I know he's not famous to most people, but he's certainly an infamous figure for Red Sox fans.)
-Howard Zinn
-Michael Moore

In terms of Epinions people, I've met alawston, mfunk75, and voxpoptart.

16. What are your favorite TV shows?
Seinfeld, Sex and the City, Six Feet Under, and especially The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and American Idol. I sometimes get sucked in by those Top 100 lists on VH1. That "I love the '80s" show is more addictive than crack. Also, on Oxygen, you must check out "The Sunday Night Sex Show" aka "Talk Sex with Sue" because Canadians sure now how to talk about sex. I also like watching baseball but any other televised sports put me to sleep.

Thanks to Prelude99 for hosting this write-off. I look forward to reading other people's entries.
