....It did all move so quickly, although I'll admit at the time sometimes I thought they were going to be little forever. *grin*
Oh enjoy those darlings, they are at great ages. Big enough to do a lot for themselves, but little enough to be so cute, fun and sponges for knowledge.
Thanks for stopping by and the wonderful comment too!.....kath

Really nice read! (Reply to this comment)
by sgentile
My daughter is starting kindergarten in the fall (she'll be 5 in Nov) and MY beautiful boy is turning 3 in 2 weeks.... But still I read your words and could really feel what you were saying. It goes so fast (while still so young my little ones are no longer babies)... *sigh*
Love the lyrics of the song too. I'm so glad your son will be living close by and stay a regular part of your lives. I will be heartbroken if my kids choose to move far away.
Susan :)

....so was the officer at least nice about it? lol
My son decided he was going to fool me for a while. I started in labor on Sunday (Mothers day that year) but it wasn't to be until that Thursday. I would stop, start, stop labor over and over. He was well worth the wait. :)
Our little guy is about 6'2"....and his dad is just barely six foot......so strange to have them tower over you, isn't it?
Thanks for the wonderful comment Don...was great to read this morning.........kath

Kath,
My son turns 21 in November, so my memories of 1982 must be somewhat similar to your's. Loved your commentary here. Kudos!
My first excitement the day my son was born was coming home, having my wife tell me it was time to go, doing the usual rushing around before making the drive to the hospital in Indianapolis (having moved there only two months earlier), then finding my carefully planned route to the hospital (repeated successfully several times so I wouldn't get lost in this city that was new to me) was obliterated by construction work and detour signs --- ugh! After 12 hours in labor and a C-secion, she gave birth to our beautiful son. I wouldn't trade a minute of those memories (not even being stopped driving home at 4 a.m. the next morning by a police officer wondering why I was driving the wrong way down a one way street).
Now my "little bundle of joy" is 6-foot-4 and his 6-foot-1 Dad looks up to him in more ways than one. Sons are cool, aren't they?
Don :)

He sounds like a terrific guy. I find it hard just thinking you have a 21 year old let alone 30 something!

My son is only two, so I can't relate to having a 21 year old... how proud you must be!
I never appreciated the Lennon song until my little boy came along. It is a touching song and now you have brought me to tears.
Wishes for a save and happy birthday to your son.

This brought tears to my eyes. My youngest will be 25 end of June but I remember her 21st birthday seems like just yesterday.
Thanks so much for sharing this heartfelt story with us. The words to Beautiful Boy highlights the background of many family videos my son has made of my grandchildren. It's a precious song.
My best to you and a happy year to your 'baby'.
As always,
Carol

It seems like my daughter was just born and already she just turned 7 this week. I know I still have the dreaded teenage years to go through and that really scares me. There is a big part of me that would just like to keep them little forever. Your Epinion was very touching and lovely.

That you have a daughter in her thirties! Rickey and my mother share the same birth date. Your essay about Rickey gave me little goosebumps! Your tolerance about his choices in life is admirable. Education is not something I would be willing to offer as a choice to my daughter. My sister-in-law has experienced the same situation as you and Rickey, with my nephew and his education. I am glad that I was not faced with this being an issue. How did the Southern Comfort go down?
My best,
Deborah~

...Nope, not Melissa, Steve. She is my third daughter. I have Kim @ 34 and Shawna @ 29...then Melissa @ 25 followed by our stillborn, Michelle Kathryn, who would be 22 now and then our baby boy Ricky @ 21. Just don't know when they all grew up. :) ......kath

In 1982 I was a sophomore at USC . . . now I feel old. Time sure flies doesn't it.
There is no way I am going to believe Melissa is in her 30's. She looks no older than 23 years old!
Great dedication to your son!

Their entire life we raise them to be independent, to be responsible adults. Then over night it happens, and we hold our heads proud, yet we miss those days, the ones we thought would never end.

my congratulations to Ricky for turning 21...and to his loving mother and dad. What a beautiful tribute - and kudos to you for giving him the power to do his thing and grow. You have every right to be proud - as I am sure he is of you.
God Bless.

Kath, this had me in tears as it parallels the emotions I had when my son reached 21 years of age.
How true it is that time just seems to fly by, especially when the nest is empty. he sounds like a wonderful young man and I wish him a wonderful life.
Glad he'll be close to you.
Thanks for making me cry before noon! LOL

I always thought that line "The monster's gone, he's on the run and your Daddy's here" was funny for some reason. Hey, you must be very proud. I bet he's proud of you too :)

out of file just because I love it so much, guess what....it made me cry! (I knew it would) I agree with you, Honey, it seems such a short time ago that he was born. Maybe that's because the older we get, the faster time flies. *sigh*
I think you have inspired me to my next review.
Thank you
