Waiting for (Reply to this comment)
by msmorvay
news is probably the one of the most un-bearable things of life. I am glad everything turned out to be just fine. And I wish a life time full of OK days. Very nicely written.

O.K. is Okay with me . . (Reply to this comment)
by ed_grover
having been through the same sort of anguish waiting for the results of a biopsy in my mouth in 1979, I know exactly how you felt waiting for that call. Mine happened to be malignant and I went on to the next step: Why me? Thankfully, I was treated successfully by some very good doctors and a great shrink. It's been up-hill all the way since then.
I hope everything in your life continues to be okay! This was an inspiring read.

Thank you for sharing this. I can certainly sympathize with your situation having been there myself. It helps others to see that things do take an unexpected turn and that there can be solutions. I hope that life gets much sunnier for you in the future.

I wish everyone could read this piece. You are exactly right about stopping to be thankful for what we have got in our lives that is good. It sometimes takes despair or illness to force us to realize that most things in life are indeed good. Thanks for a very inspiring piece here. Tom Barnes

.....gave all of us with this piece. We all do get complacent and don't realize that being just OK can really be a blessing.
God Bless you, and may many more ok days come your way.

You've certainly been through a lot, and I'm delighted that the worst you had to fear came to naught. And even more so that you got that lesson without the tragedy that usually accompanies it.
Here's to a long life of dinged fenders and crabgrass!

Thank God for granting you the courage to write this phenomenal essay!
Believe me when I say this: God has more in store for you in this life, more work for you to do, more powerful examples for you to set!

Hi Rich,
So I?ve learned to use my own worst times as a barometer of the severity of whatever crisis is currently assailing me?and, let?s face it, there?s always a current crisis.
It's amazing how trite some things sound until you've lived them. We start our adult lives feeling so bold and invincible. I know I did, anyway. Then after a two year period that involved $100,000 in legal bills, $200,000 in medical bills, an emergency c-section, and a baby born two months prematurely, I came to understand the meaning of the phrase what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.
When you get through the things you've faced, you're a stronger person. No, not because there's virtue in pain or suffering. Because you've been battle tested and you survived. You know your own strength.
In one of my favorite Woody Allen films, Deconstructing Harry, there's a line you might enjoy: The most beautiful words in the English language are not "I love you," but "it's benign."
I'm glad you're OK.

Perspective is sometimes the hardest thing to get, isn't it? You've found a way to use yours.
Working on that...

Sometimes "OK" is the way things happen, and it's nothing to worry about. Ups and downs all average out about equal in the end...

A dear friend of mine . . . (Reply to this comment)
by theeye
who's had more than her share of troubles in life, once showed up at the mechanic's shop to pick up her car. She needed the car badly, as she had three kids at various schools to pick up. The car wasn't ready, though the mechanic had promised it. He couldn't figure out what the problem was.
Her friend asked her later whether she had yelled at the mechanic and she, very calmly, said 'No. I didn't yell at him. Why would I yell at the mechanic just because he couldn't fix my car on time? I didn't yell at the doctors when they couldn't save my baby.' Her fourth child, six months old and hospitalized for nearly all of her brief life, had just died the week before.
I learned the importance of 'ok' from her. (btw, I'll be attending the bar mitzvah of her oldest this weekend -- and she has another 2 kids now, all healthy, thank God.)

...okay is a great place to be.
So happy that things turned out well and the mole was just a mole that ran amok. It's amazing how long a short time can be.
Health issues usually make us step back and appreciate the regular problems like dented fenders...or broken timing belts. :(
God bless and glad that everything is okay.......kath
