Opinion Summary
Windows Vista vs. Motorola Phone Tools (using Razr V3m)
by ltrain | Mar 7, 2007
Pros: Easy to obtain, easy to install. Would be powerful if it worked.
Cons: Doesn't do nearly what it's advertised to do! Loads of work for small results.

Thank you so much! I'll try it tonight and if it works I'll amend the Epinion. Too bad other users here who are so quick to be vocal aren't nearly as helpful.

Working! (Reply to this comment)

It is now working. I can finally save and transfer ring tones! So I would try to go to the link I posted before and follow the steps. I already have a newer version of Windows Media Player than the WMP 11 that they tell you to download. Then just verify the few things in steps 2 and 3. Like I said before, it still didn't work when I first did this, but I ran it as administrator and it started working. To do this just right click on MPT and select "run as administrator". So knock on wood, I hope mine continues to work great and hopefully you can find success as well. Just let me know if you have questions.

Thank you for the response. Where did you find MP3DirectCut? Does it cost anything?

Anyways, I found another website where people were discussing the same exact problems we are having. Someone posted

"Maybe this sites will help you to fix the MP3-Codec error…

http://www.looprecorder.de/tut_l3codec.php

Make sure you do the step 3 and click on download. The file was listed on my computer, but once I hit download it worked!! good luck."

I followed these steps and they all worked, but my MPT still says failure to save. If you try it, let me know how it works. Thanks

I still stand by my original Epinion...MPT doesn't work in Vista. I'm using a program called MP3DirectCut to alter MP3s into ring tones, saving them in a directory on my pc, and then I can use MPT to do a file transfer that puts them on my phone. That's all I can really use MPT for in Vista, and that is with the drivers downloaded that I reference in the Epinion.

ANY SOLUTIONS?? (Reply to this comment)
by ttsoccer2424
I have been experiencing the same problems you stated with my Motorola Phone Tools on Vista......

I tried to use the ringtone studio to create a few custom ringtones. I could edit the songs but when I'd try to save them the program had an error and wouldn't save in MP3 format! My only option was to save the ringtones in WAV format. The Razr V3M does not recognize WAV files so these were fully useless to me.

So I was just wondering if you ever figured out how to save the ring tones so you can transfer them to your phone??

This problem has only been occurring since I got my new PC with vista. The motorola phone tools worked great on windows xp, however.

Thanks

Alex:

Here is a link to the thread. I suspect many people have been mislead by your review and comments, which is very very sad, and defeats the purpose of epinions.

Alex:

I disagree. MPT does NOT work on Windows XP x64 or Windows Vista x64. Both fail during installation and the issue is known. I have queried (a few months ago) Avanquest via the BVRP forums, and they stated they planned to fix the issue, but did not know when the fix would be made available. This was July. x64 versions of Windows still does not appear to be supported in MPT, according to the Avanquest USA product web site.

Many of us who don't work for BVRP (sounds like you do) are running the latest OS and don't want to have some half done software force us to go back just to work with our phone.

Maybe you should write your own epinion, you seem to be very knowledgeable about the product.

Thanks for the info!
