| pkmom's Full Review: Wasabi Japanese Steakhouse & Sushi Bar |
Ask anyone in my family where they want to eat dinner - formal or casual - and the choice will be Wasabi Fine Japanese Steakhouse and Sushi Bar everytime.
Relaxed and fun, this fine dining restaurant is sure to please everyone. Kids will enjoy watching the chefs create choo-choo trains and volcanoes right before their eyes. Adults will enjoy the varied but straightforward hibachi menu.
Prices are moderate. A full menu can be found online at http://www.wasabi-steakhouse.com/ Lunch prices range from $6.25 for Hibachi Vegetables to $11.95 for Ribeye and Shrimp. Youll get your choice of entre plus a pile of fried rice, tantalizing zucchini, steamed carrots and a fresh salad made up of lettuce, diced carrots and red cabbage. The salad dressing is a tangy ginger mayonnaise mix with just a hint of wasabi.
The dinner menu prices range from Hibachi Vegetable at $10.25 to Sea Bass at $22.95. Ribeye and Shrimp are also on the menu for $17.95. The dinner menu includes all of the above plus miso soup and an appetizer.
You will want to get there early. No only will you avoid the frequent crowds but you can take advantage of Early Bird Specials. The Early Bird Menu is available until 6:00 pm, Monday Friday and until 5:30 pm on Saturday and Sunday. Childrens menus for lunch and dinner are also available.
When you arrive at Wasabi be prepared to wait a few minutes (unless you ask to be seated at the sushi bar dining area.) Like most Japanese steakhouses Wasabi staff prefers to sit people around a full grill. If there are not enough people in your party you may have to wait a few minutes for seating. We have never waited more than 5 minutes for others to join us. If it looks like the wait will be longer than a few minutes they will go ahead and seat you and your dining experience will begin.
Heres a recap of my last lunch there.
My party of three did not have to wait. We were seated immediately. The server promptly took our drink orders and gave us a few minutes to look at the menu. When he came back with the iced tea he answered all of the questions that were asked and took our order. I am allergic to onions and have to always have my food prepared separately. This has never been a problem and it wasnt this time either. I ordered the Hibachi Vegetables. My husband had the Ribeye and Shrimp and our daughter ordered the shrimp.
The salads arrived followed almost immediately by the chef.
One of the best things about Wasabi is the show the chefs put on right in front of you. There was a little boy in the other party. It was his first visit. He sat mesmerized through the whole thing. After a big fire where the chef makes a flame with cooking oil the chef began preparing our orders. The little boy clapped with delight as the chef made an erupting volcano from stacked onions and tossed eggs into his hat.
Because of the onions, my vegetables and rice were brought out separately. They were cooked to perfection as was my husbands meal and our daughters meal as well.
At Wasabi the portions are so large that you will always have food left over. As the show concluded the server brought out take home cartons along with our check. With tax and tea, the meal was about $35.00 plus tip.
Dress was mostly business casual. A few diners were wearing blue jeans and windsuits. In the evenings we have seen everything from blue jeans to prom dresses. The atmosphere is relaxed but nice. There is no loud music playing here. You can easily converse with people next to you.
The restaurant is conveniently located just off of Kingston Pike on Bearden Hill. There is also a location on Lovell Road. The hours for both are as follows:
Lunch
Monday-Friday: 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM
Sunday: 11:00 AM to 2:30 PM
Dinner
Monday-Thursday: 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM
Friday: 5:00 PM to 10:30 PM
Saturday: 4:00 PM to 10:30 PM
Sunday 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM
Reservations are not required. There is also a bar if you like to order drinks.
For a fun dining experience Wasabi just cant be beat!
