by hevinly | May 31 '03

I'm glad I read this and you have gotten support here. Make sure there isn't a nutritional or mercury problem, of course, and please keep writing here!

I really find that the Writers Corner is THE place to vent your feelings. I find it marvelously therapeutic to put them down on "paper" (as it were), send them off into the world, and then receive some affirmation (even if it is just a couple of "VH's".

I have found many people honestly do not know how to support grieving and pain, and yours will unfortunately continue. I hope you continue to love your son with all of your strength and will, and that your sadness is mixed with rejoicing in his triumphs and happiness, however small or rare! YOU are his Mommy, his hero, his savior on Earth.

Hey heather,

It is not very often that I read something here at Epinions that moves me so. I can sense your son's and your own pain in meeting this challenge. And how others (we!) interact with both of you. And how we judge both of you, often without the proper basis to do so.

Do not feel reluctant to share your thoughts and feelings with us here at Epinions. This Writer's Corner is the perfect place to use too share your struggles and for us to learn from them.

My oldest daughter just completed her HS graduation this weekend. I can not imagine the pain for her and her parents if she had been held back by a struggle such as you now face.

Godspeed.

and there are many, many others on this site who understand your pain, as well.

May I suggest continuing to write about your experiences with others and hope that you will reach at least one individual who will learn from you that children with disabilities have feelings!!

When we see our children scorned and poked fun of by other children (and adults!), we hurt deeply! The public needs to become aware that our children need friendships, kindness, caring and acceptance!

Thanks for sharing this important essay.
God bless you and your son!

.......that being able to write of the difficulties that you face as a parent, has been of some small relief for you. You need support and to know that others do care.

I have been so blessed with four children and have not had to deal with a disabled child, but I know as a parent, when our children are suffering so are we.

My thoughts and prayers are with you...God Bless.....kath
