Ooooh! I would love it if you could burn that one for me! I haven't listened to it since probably August, 2001:(
I'll drop you an email soon. Thanks! ~Ryan

I have a friend who has a 600 disc cd player filled with music, and every year he hits random and "battles" the songs against each other to decide his favorite songs. He plays the first song, then the second, and decides which of those two will move on to the finals. He fills an entire notebook with his results, and the entire process takes months! When he's through, he burns mixes to reflect the best of the best.
Now, I'll admit that my list certainly qualifies me as a geek! But, thankfully, I have yet to reach the pinnacle of geekdom that my friend has achieved! And, with geeks like him, I feel a little better about my geekiness because I am confident that I will NEVER be as bad as him! He's raised the bar pretty damn high.
Plus, I'm bogged down with one of those pesky things called... oh what is that thing again... oh yeah... A LIFE! And that keeps me at least moderately grounded:)
As for SNMNMNM, I may just write a review for ya. I hear they have a new full length coming out soon. Or maybe it's already out. I think it comes out this summer though.
The short and quick review: SNMNMNM was my favorite LA based geek rock band until they moved back to New York City. They play tight little pop punk/geek rock numbers, and are the only band in my collection that features the occasional tuba solo! They sound like a young They Might Be Giants with a horn section, with a dash of Weezer for good measure. I highly recommend them. Check out their song "Disco Barry" for a decent introduction. I'm sure you can download it online.
Thanks for the comment! ~Ryan
p.s. I won't tell anyone about your list!

I mean, really, listing every CD you own? I would never do that.
Of course, on reflection, i do keep an updated file of every CD i own to which i'd award at least a 7 on a scale of 10, organized by year of release and then by rough 10/9/8/7 preference order within the year. And of course that file is actually longer than your whole list here. But the difference is, i would never admit to anyone that my file exists.
Interesting collection, though. I've heard good things about SNMNMNM (the band name counts as one of those "good things" by itself) - planning to review Asbestos Weekend for the curious anytime?
cheers,
-Brian

Yeah, you did. Thanks for that! You even made a kick-ass color inlay that included a non-album picture of the band on the back side that reads "not so much invisible here as poorly lit from a weird angle." (Or something to that effect!)
It was very cool.
Speaking of Dan Bern, he's playing in Hollywood very, very soon and I'm hoping to catch the show. I will post a review if I go!
What other overlaps do we share? I picked up Neko Case: Blacklisted due to the mixes you made... still don't have furnace room lullaby but it's on my list!
One of the most serious holes in my music collection (and there are MANY) is my R.E.M. segment. I mean... what is that? ONE cd?? Ha! That's really pathetic:) One day I'm gonna fix that:)
We really need to do another trade soon. I keep thinking you've moved since out last trade, but I may be imagining things. Either way, I probably lost your address, but I'll probably mix something for you soon and drop an email when I do. You've been warned!

I can't believe you missed it! You know that corner in my apartment, on the way to the kitchen, where all the band posters are up? That's the cd area! And you can borrow whatever you like just so long as you don't spill wine or milk or cat piss all over them. (Not that you would even be in a position to spill wine or milk or cat piss, and that that you wouldn't be either. I assume nothing!)

Heh:) But I like devouring epinions bandwith!
I actually have no idea how many hours of music this represents. I'm not even sure how many cd's this represents. Approximately 300-400 cd's I guess.
And, a lot of this stuff I never listen to. I mean, I've outgrown plenty of the music here. I just don't throw anything out! It's organized in such a fashion where I know exactly where anything is at any given moment if I want to listen to it too. So it's not that overwhelming.
Thanks for the comment! ~Ryan

... prompted me to hit your profile to check out the list of CDs that you haven't had replaced yet.
Stupid question: Did I ever actually send you the Travis CD? I have a bad tendency to flake out on mailing things to people, and I swear I don't remember sending that to you.
Anyhow.
We have even more CD overlap than I expected-- Dan Bern, for instance.
Hope you're well.

Jay, dear ... it's the writers' corner. It doesn't have to have anything to do with reviews. *sigh*

Jesus H. Christ, mate. Where do you keep them all? I've seen your apartment and I must have missed the massive storage area you were hiding them in.
Anyway, I'll have to borrow some sh it from you.

Wow. You long ago exceeded the ephemeral number that allowed you to hope to listen to any given CD within a reasonable point of time. Well actually, you could listen to any CD at any time, assuming you were able to find it.
How many hours of 'ear-time' you think that collection represents? Kind of like AOL's famous offer of 1500 hours free usage in your first 45 days registered. Or whatever it is. You would have to be online 24/7 for 43 or 44 days to use it all. Or in your case, to listen to it all.
But then I guess it is similar to many book-lovers that have hundreds of volumes that would take even longer to read through.
Me, I try to take advantage of the public library for both books and music as much as I can. Sure, maybe I can't find 'Satanic Surfers - Going Nowhere Fast' when I want to, but hey, it's a lot cheaper.
There are still lots of free website providers (I like angelfire.com) that would allow you to house this info (and more!) online without devouring Epinions bandwidth.
Just a thought. At this point I will just comment and leave it at that...

Kristina,
that's really sweet of you! Thanks though. I'm mostly just concerned about replacing the ones I lost. Frankly, at this point, I'm more used to NOT having them than having them! It's really taking forever! The hotel cannot mail the cd's (and other things) for legal reasons and I simply don't have the money to fly to New York just yet. Eventually, I'll fly back and get them all. Until then, I'm just gonna do without. I'm glad I wrote down which ones I lost or I probably wouldn't remember anymore!
Take care! ~Ryan

Uh, no.
There has to be a point these days? I simply listed them to have a list of them. I see two reasons to have a list:
1.) In case something happens and I lose some again. (A friend of mine was recently robbed and now she wishes she had a list. When I lost my cd's in New York, I had to go from memory and I wished I had this then too.)
2.) I do a lot of mix trades with people, many of them are people I only know from online, and it's nice to have a list to show them what I've got. (Although, for the most part it doesn't matter. It's just nice that it's available.)

Just went to your profile page to see what you were still needing. My husband has similar taste to yours so I thought that there might be something. Nope. Everything you asked for that has been filled by someone else - we have all of those :). Anything else you're looking for?

But I don't quite see what the point is of simply listing every CD you own. Are you going to do a review of them all?
