This is the first headlamp I've bought in several years. My last was also a Petzl incandescent. LED technology has made these little lights effecient. I have had usable light output out of mine for months. One headlamp an an extra set of batteries would serve you a long time on an extended trip. They do not regulate their power source, so the light will get dimmer as the batteries weaken.
They put out a practical amount of floodlight for work about 5 meters out. Fine to see where you're walking in the night. I find mine is actually used more for work in attics, etc....
All in all, a decent value for the money. I'm looking forward to purchasing a Petzl XP in the near future.
