Recently I bough a digital camcorder. In order to find the best price, I searched the web and found, among others, AMDV.com. The price was quite low, but after trying to buy the camcorder there I had to go to 800.com.
Why Buy Online?
Majority of online stores sell electronics for less than brick-and-mortar electronics superstores. You can also save on not having pay taxes, which for such pricey items as a digital camcorder can go up to hundreds.
AMDV
I made several attempts to buy my camcorder from different online stores. The AMDV was “Attempt Number 3”.
Pricey Shipping
First of all, the site looks kind of ugly. However, this is not the worst part. The shipping rates are very high. For example, it costs $25 to ship a $500 camcorder by UPS Ground or $50 for UPS Next Day. DVD players or VCRs ship by UPS ground only for $30!
Availability And Sales Pitch
The list of models has indicators of availability, for example the green circle means that the model is available. Don’t trust them!
The Panasonic DV100 had a “green circle”, so I ordered it. The checkout process was quite fast. However, the sales rep called me and insisted that the battery that comes with camcorder is good for no more than 30 minutes. So I have to get more accessories from them.
Question Number 1: Did I ask you to call me with your “help”?
Question Number 2: Why “Consumer Reports” states that the battery lasts 80-90 minutes?
Of course, I declined. He tried to convince me for a while to get some other accessories, but I refused. Than he “checked his computer” and told me that they don’t have the camcorder in stock and don’t expect to have them any time soon.
Question Number 3: Why the hell did you call me and tried to sell accessories?
Question Number 4: Why does AMDV say that this model is available?
Question Number 5: Why did I have to give you my information and a credit card number if you don’t have this model in stock?
Bottom Line
Fortunately, there is another question, on which I can give a definite answer.
Question Number 6: Will I [try to] buy from AMDV again?
Answer: No.
