The Lesson of Responsibility!!

The Bottom Line Chores are an important teaching of not only responsibility but self-esteem.

I know that when I was growing up I hated chores. But, in the end I'm glad my parents made me do chores it taught me responsibility and how to take care of not only myself but my family. I think that children should do chores it not only teaches them responsibility but it does help with self esteem because it's a since of accomplishment for them.

Young children can have chores as in making bed, picking up clothes, brushing teeth, and picking up toys. Doesn't matter if they are doing them perfectly just that they are learning. When children start hitting the ages of 8 and up then you start putting in more specific chores. Like sweeping room, dusting room and so on. Remember doesn't have to be perfect just so that they are trying. If you remark on how nothing was done right then why should they do it.
The chores that kids do they should get verbal praise always that is a boost to the self esteem. It also gives them a since of accomplishment. But for whatever circumstances if you are needing something done a certain way don't say 'you can't do it right I'll do it ' just say 'hey you know what you do a good job but I'm going to help you today so maybe you can teach me something '.

Just remember that words can hurt and so can actions if you want them to keep doing their chores remember what words and actions you use with them. Our kids have chores and they are learning important responsibilities. I can't get over the grown-ups now that don't know how to clean a house, do laundry, or boil water. These are easy things that can be taught early and I believe EVERY child should learn.
