If you buy a Toyota Camry, do not consider the streets your playground.

You make an excellent argument for universal access to computer games for youngsters! Had this kid access to Grand Theft Auto III, he might have been at home playing it, instead of at home being inspired by Toyota Camry commercials!

Incidentally, I have nothing against commercials -- only against our system of education that doesn't teach kids the skills of critical thinking so that they can deal with them.

For anyone who hasn't seen it, an example of an excellent car commercial is this one, made with painstaking care in Great Britain, and well worth the two minutes it takes to watch it:

...that smooth flow that many never achieve.

Of course, had this kid been homeschooled with Grand Theft Auto III, he wouldn't have made this many mistakes.

Good point, Tomslyck, but rather than bother with the "rough neighborhood", news people could just park the Toyota Camry with the keys in it near the helipad, thus allowing for the news chopper reporter being on the ground for a pit stop... We must write to Fox News at once!

I agree. I can't believe that the people who write most car commercials have even the slightest cllue about what they're really suggesting. On the other hand, maybe it's free advertising to incite 13-year-olds to joyride around on tv in their products...

Thank you for the encouragement.

The local news editors must love Camrys (Reply to this comment)

Local TV news editors must love Camrys. Since they've already got those traffic helicopters up there, it's an easy matter to push aside 2 hours of inconsequential dribble to make room for an inconsequential car chase. I wonder if it occurred to anyone that it would be cheaper to park an old Camry with its keys in the ignition in a rough neighborhood each day, than to hire a real reporter and camera crew who might find a story of some importance. Or is the cheapest approach to just read the Times in the morning and report the same news (but with pictures, ooooo) in the afternoon.

i personally hate car commercials and always turn the sound off during them. my least favorite one is the one where the guy comes out of a 7-eleven and two guys insist that his car is stolen and that he stole it. which is dumb, cuz they picked the most non-car thief type actor to play the owner of the car. anyway, i find this commercial completely insipid and i'm not quite sure about the message it's trying to communicate. that if you buy this car, people will think it's stolen? and if this is the message, why is this a good thing? i could punch through the window of my lame toyota and it would look stolen too. why is this good?

car ad execs are horrible people- this i know from working at the place that does honda's ads. icky.

great review, keep writing!
