The Bottom Line Some thoughts to ponder.
Is that good or bad? Two weeks ago my business brought me to a small town with some upscale homes in a place called Wayland, Massachusetts. This is just outside Boston. MY EXPERIENCE I was doing the job, I am a partner in an entertainment company, and a woman approached me. She was looking at me a bit earlier. You know, where you see somebody looking and then when you look at them they turn their eyes away. At first I thought it was just another woman checking out this fine looking, fifty something year old, 275lb, pot bellied, bald headed guy, with a crooked smile and small beady eyes. I do have to keep a baseball bat in hand to beat off all the hot babes. So anyways, she comes up to me and asks, "Do you write on any product review sites on the Internet?" I said, "I do" and then a huge "YOU'RE POPSROCKS!!", comes out of her mouth. I was taken back a bit, but, then a big toothy grin came over me. Hey that was cool, being recognized. But then I started thinking to myself. Did she go to a hotel I raved about only to have a terrible experience herself. Is she another Epinionator who I may have just given a NH or SH to. Well, all turned out just fine. She was very flattering, saying she loved my New York City series of reviews and enjoyed my reviews of Italy and especially of Caribbean destinations with my wife. I have to say I enjoyed the attention. She started telling the others at the party "Who I was" and kept going on and on like I was some sort of important celebrity. The party went well, we had a few other kind words to each other, and my gig ended and I started on my trip back home to New York. YOUR EXPERIENCE Has anybody else here had this kind of experience. I do know some of you have met each other, but I believe those were planned meetings. I would like to hear about it. Share those times. TO BE OR NOT TO BE I was also wondering what other people felt about this. I do know that many of you are behind cartoon faces and characters on your profile page. How many of you have had your cat recognized as being on the site? Some others I have seen with that unique looking box with a little red X in the corner. I once thought I recognized one of the people from this board. I was on the Empire State Building looking down and I saw a fellow with a sky blue coloured sombrero with a beige rim standing on a black blanket. I quickly ran down 86 flights of stairs from the buildings observation deck only to find the black blanket but nobody there. I'm sure it was Mobiprof I saw. I wonder how many put their real faces up just to be part of the community? How many really hoping to be seen and recognized, and how many "hide" behind other "icons" of themselves for security reasons or reasons of insecurity. IN CLOSING So my friends. What do you think? I will keep my pic up. I find no problem in it. I do like putting faces with reviews. That's why I like it when I see the real you. One thing for sure, if I ever get to a "Meet and Greet" here in New York, you will know who I am. Will I recognize you? |
