If you are a National League Hockey nut like yours truly, then you know the ultimate source for information on the world's greatest sport is located at nhl.com. Any piece of information that you are looking for on the coolest game on ice, whether it is players' statistics, player profiles, the latest trades, NHL merchandise, or news from around the world of hockey, you will find it here. This web site has it all, literally.
Information, please!
There are multiple links from the home page. The news link from the home page will give you the latest signings and going ons in the league. The schedule lets you know who you favorite team is playing. By the way, the Rangers open the season on October 5 down in Carolina! Links are also available during the season to give you scores and statistics so you can find out how your team is doing overall and in comparison to the others.
A link to the players tells you a little more about your favorite stars of the NHL. For example, New York Rangers' captain Mark Messier is the only player in the history of the league to captain two different teams to the Stanley Cup ( another shameless Rangers' reference ). There is great information available including a statistical history of the individual players. Team histories are also available where you can learn about the backgrounds of the teams. Check out the Montreal Canadiens' one here. Although their home page is in French, just look at their illustrious history. One word - unbelievable.
Shopping on the site
Shopping for NHL related merchandise is also available. You can buy your official Stanley Cup merchandise or stuff from your favorite team instead. It is absolutely incredible the amount of merchandise that is there. The prices are rather high but you are paying for the brand name here unfortunately so that is why it costs so much. Some of the more unique items available include the mini Zambonis. And no, they do not actually work, they are replicas so don't expect to use them at home!
Multi-media abilities afforded the user by the internet are prominently utilized here. You can listen to the game through the official NHL radio network. Or you can check out last night's highlights in a video clip presentation. You can get e-mail newsletters about your team to have the latest delivered to your e-mailbox.
There are secondary sources galore here. You can not only find links to your favorite NHL teams' home page but you can also find direct links to your favorite teams merchandise store if you are looking to but a jersey or other clothing. They also have a site where you play an NHL trivia game and answer questions about the history of the sport.
Some other features are an area about the upcoming 2002 Olympics out in Salt Lake City, UT. You can learn about the NHL officials and coaches as well in separate areas. There are chat rooms and bulletin boards to communicate with other fans of the game.
Other Areas
There is also a section devoted to kids to help cultivate their interest in this wonderful sport. A section is devoted to the Hall of Fame which is located up in Toronto. You can even take a virtual tour inside the Hall of Fame on your computer, really cool for those of us who have never been there. There is also information about the history of the Stanley Cup and all the other trophies given out in the National Hockey League.
A truly sensational web site which is the ultimate source for hockey fans. Now do you understand the title of my epinion!
