The Bottom Line Each of these films will give you thrills, chills, and blood spills. (Catchy tune, eh?)

This is a list for some of my all time favorite movies that either

A) Scarred me for life
B) Made me sleep with the lights on
C) All of the above

Jaws
I've never gone more than 15 feet out into the ocean after watching this movie. It single-handedly scared a generation of people to not go into the water in the summer of 1975. It's the story of a small town that depends on summer money from tourists. And on the 4th of July weekend, a shark descends upon it's shores... Not only a thrilling action piece, but the character development is also superb.

John Carpenter's The Thing
This film also scarred me. The transformation of the alien being is utterly gruesome. The plot is also suspenseful and incredibly intriguing. It shows a crew of 12 men working on a research station in Antarctica. They happen upon another crew, who's station is desolate and spattered with blood. They later discover this alien entity mimics and kills anything it mimics. So this means that one of the crew could possibly be infected, thus able to kill each of them one by one.... Very suspenseful.

The Evil Dead
This is a must on every horror list. The plot is this: five college kids go up to a cabin. Little do they know, the place is surrounded by an ancient evil. They unleash the evil through the "Necromonicon ex Mortis", roughly translated "The Book of the Dead". Soon one of them is possessed by the dead, and there's only one way to kill them... Bodily dismemberment. Not for the sqeumish, this is a classic example of how low budget can turn out greatness.
Rated: NR

The Shining
Stanley Kubrick's classic tale of insanity in a house of evil. A major mansion in the North Dakota mountains needs a groundskeeper for the winter, but they and they're family must stay on grounds for over 5 months cut off from humanity. Well Jack is a writer and thinks it's the perfect oppurtunity to work in solitude. So him, his wife, and his little child Danny come with him. But not all is what it seems... Jack is wrestling with alcoholism, and Danny keeps seeing visions of "redrum"... Jack Nicholson's performance is spellbinding as it is sickening.

Halloween
Yet another definitive classic in the genre of horror. This film and F13 set the standard for slasher movies. Micheal Myers is a mental case who has escaped from the ward and is hunting down his only known relative... And he will kill all those who get in his way.
Rated: R

Texas Chainsaw Massacre
It also is an underrated classic. This movie has made me cringe every single time I see it and I watched it many times... It starts off about news of a vandalism at a graveyard. So a few kids decide to check it out to make sure none of their grandparent's graves had been wrecked. Soon they find themselves at a deserted gas station and they stop and find the most disturbing family of cannibals ever on seen on film. Disturbing masterpiece.

The Hitcher
This is a simple concept that morphed into utter suspense. A young couple pick up a hitch hiker, and chaos ensues. This hitcher delights in stalking and torturing the two to a breaking point... Extremely suspenseful and has some incredible tension. The violence is mostly off screen, allowing the audience to imagine what is happening.
Rated: R

The Exorcist
This is the famous tale of Satan versus God. Many people including myself came away from this shocked and I personally slept with the lights on, except I didn't fall asleep for 2 days. This film works so well because it’s very character driven. You get to know and feel for the characters, and then when all the gruesome events happen, you really sympathize with the characters.
Rated: R
Quote:"The demon is a liar. He will lie to confuse us. But he will also mix lies with the truth to attack us. The attack is psychological, but powerful. So don't listen, remember that, do not listen."

Friday the 13th
Before it was a cliche, this and Halloween made the slasher genre. Camp Crystal Lake was shut down because of a death, but now it's being re-opened and the counselors have to arrive early. What they didn't expect was a vengeful killer on the loose... Graphic and great, this movie is another classic.
Rated: R
Quote:"You know a boy drowned the year before those two others were killed? The counselors weren't paying any attention...They were making love while that poor boy drowned. His name was Jason."

Nightmare on Elm Street
After watching this one, I didn't sleep very well for a week. The gore is disturbing and it has some memorable moments that will stay with you. (Girl being dragged across the ceiling while being gutted) It's about a serial killer (Freddy Krueger) who kills when you fall asleep. One by one they are killed, until the final battle comes...
Rated: R
Quote:"If Nancy Doesn't Wake Up Screaming She Won't Wake Up At All..."

Well that's the best of the best. Have a fun time seeing these, I know I did.
