Wal*Mart: Cheap prices, cheap shipping = good deals

I have to be honest - I don't really care for wal*mart and it has never been at the top of my list for shopping. I guess it is too blah for me. However, when I want to buy an item that many merchants carry, I usually use a search engine to find the lowest price. In this case, I was looking for two Disney DVDs. My search results revealed that Wal*Mart.com had the best deal so I decided to check it out.
THE SHOPPING EXPERIENCE
I thought Wal*Mart had a sophisticated web site. I was able to look at lots of different items like sheets and clothing with a zoom feature which let me examine the details of each item. The site gave good information about the items being sold in a format that was easy to follow. The only feature they were missing was consumer opinions. I like to know what other people who bought the items thought about them.
I located my DVDs using the search feature which was fast and easy. The menus on the site are also easy to follow.
CHECKING OUT
Checking out was pretty easy compared to most sites. I had to enter my address only once. They asked for my birth year which I found unnecessary and invasive. I couldn't proceed until I provided it. I also had to provide my phone number which I didn't like. An email address should be enough. Also, they had a default section that signed me up for email alerts. I don't need more email alerts and was careful to uncheck the box, however I don't like traps for the unwary that lead to unwanted spam.
The upside of my check out experience is that they provided an estimated date of arrival before I even paid for my items. I found this information useful. If you needed something quicker, you could upgrade to faster shipping.
SHIPPING COSTS
I chose ground shipping for my DVDs which was the cheapest they offered. It cost me 97 cents per DVD which is cheaper than most sites. According to the site, I was supposed to get my items in about a week. If I had paid more, I could have gotten my items sooner.
CUSTOMER SERVICE
I got an email immediately after placing my order that acknowledged my order. I got an email the next day saying that my items had shipped. There was a link in the second email that I could use to track my product through the shipping process. They gave me a three day window for when my DVDs would arrive. As it turned out, the DVDs arrived on the last day, exactly one week after I placed my order.
PACKAGING
The DVDs were shipped in a bubble-wrapped plastic envelope. The DVDs arrived in good condition. I could have reused the shipping envelope for a return if I wanted to.
RETURNS
Wal*mart allows you to return items that you mail order to any store. There are lots of small exceptions to this policy so, if you think you might need to make a return, be sure to check their policies.
STEALS AND DEALS
I looked around the internet for coupons or rebates but couldn't find any.
FINAL RECOMMENDATION
I found it easy to select my items and pay for them. The items showed up in a week which is about average. Shipping costs were reasonable. All in all, I thought Wal*mart.com provided a good experience.
