Impertinent Thoughts on Pertinent Subjects XXVIII

The Bottom Line No come up with this stupid thing, no!

Off and running...

News Flash...I Hate Fred Durst

According to Durst, the fake album titles that he's been giving out for the past 8 months are "for the people who just won't be patient." Yeah, Fred, it's such a BAD thing to have fans who actually want every bit of information about a band's new album. Let me tell ya Fred, when Limp Bizkit can't sell out theatres in 2 years, you'll be missing those annoying fans.

Britney Spears...Think She's Found a New Fan in Dubya?

So Britney has done coke...interesting. Way to keep up that whole "teenage" appeal thing Brit. Estimated length of time her next album will be in the top 10: 1 week. And I can't help but wonder if her and Dubya have done the coke thing together...oops, I'm sorry, I forgot, I can't say anything bad about our president because then I might be "unpatriotic."

Eminem and ridiculousness...

Come on, you got at least a chuckle out of him doing the dangling baby thing. Just admit it. Now, if only Em wouldn't take himself so damn seriously so Weird Al could make that Couch Potato video.

Velvet Revolver makes it's triumphant debut

Velvet Revolver of course, is the former members of Guns N Roses together with Scott Weiland. It seems Weiland's take on STP is much the same as Chris Robinson with the Black Crowes (the whole, "if we feel like doing STP, we'll do it" BS), but his recent drug arrest makes me think Velvet Revolver will be forced to sit on the sidelines whilst Weiland goes to jail and rehab AGAIN. Hopefully a taper was in the house the other night, because the setlist looks positively bada*s.

Yay the Chili Peppers Are Coming to Town

Oh wait, that's right, every review I've read of their shows for the past two tours has marked the band as being "highly disappointing" or in other words, they just plain sucked. It's not just critics saying this either, it's fans, people who really like the band. Right now I don't know if I'd go see their live show if I got in for free...THAT's how many bad reviews I've read.

Boston the Band...Another Album, Another Lawsuit

I've come to the conclusion that Boston has to be the most egotistical, pretentious and annoying band on the planet. They're suing their record label (which makes what, 227 suits they've filed? I've lost count) for lack of promotion on their newest record, Corporate America. Guys, it ain't lack of promotion that's the reason for your lack of record sales, it's the fact that no one cares about you anymore because of one simple reason: you've been a band for 25 years and have put out FOUR albums...that is PATHETIC.

Beware the Iron Fist of the RIAA...

Watch out all you downloaders, the RIAA is coming after you. And you're gonna lose in court and get hit with fines. Oh, but wait. That's right, you're Joe Schmo who makes $30,000 a year who can't afford to pay a multimillion dollar judgement anyway. So these lawsuits are pointless, and to an extent, frivolous. The RIAA and the labels just don't get it. It's unbelievable that almost three years after the death of Napster they still just don't get it. *sigh* And then there's artists who are balking at making only single tracks available for download on the new Apple service. Hello, McFly! Most people who download a ton of music are only looking to download your hits in a lot of cases. You all can't be this stupid, you just can't be!

Know What's Annoying?

I was flipping through my 600 billion TV stations the other day when I came across MTV Hits. I left it on to see what video was gonna come on next. Unfortunately, Ashanti's new video did. But before I was able to turn it off, I heard a male voice come in in the background with one simple line "Murder Inc." Why is it that rappers these days have to pimp out their record label? I don't see rock bands saying "Epic records" in this tough, gruff voice. Can someone PLEASE explain this positively stupid trend to me? What the hell do I care what record label an artist is on? Just sing your damn song.

The B.R.M.C is back...joy

But the real question is is are they going to require 3 hour soundchecks at each of their tour stops in support of this album? Or are they just that pretentious when they play in a "special guest" slot here in Boston?

Rosa Parks...Get a Life

She has sued Outkast for naming a song on their 1998 album Aquemini after her, yet never referencing her in her song, so therefore, they are profitting off her nane. Jesus, only in America. Where's Cedric the Entertainer when you need him? And when the hell are Outkast releasing their new disc?

ODB...Out of Jail...For Now

You know what? Ol' Dirty Bastard has to be the single most annoying rapper on the planet. Guy gets out of jail, and he's given a press conference to talk about his new record deal and a upcoming album. What's next? Is Mystikal gonna be feted when he gets out of jail on his charges? Hip hop keeps embracing the violence game, and then expects us to feel bad when the violence claims one of their own...I'm not buying it anymore.

Two Great Reviews...

I haven't heard either album, so I don't know how accurate the two reviews are. But Rolling Stone's trashing of the new Train album just made me laugh, and the Boston Herald's trashing of Liz Phair's new album was great as well. Larry Katz of the Herald on Phair's new disc: "it may be the first album where an artist is desparately trying to be accepted by the mainstream with songs with no mainstream appeal." Ouch.

My favorite quote of the last month:

"Come to my show. I'll be there. F*ck SARS man."-Ozzy

Yes, I realize it's not July yet, but the winner for the most overplayed and annoying song of the year is...

Headstrong by Trapt. Man that song sucks the big one.

Want free music?

It's summer, so there's nothing better than live music. But with ticket prices spiraling out of control, not everyone can afford to go see a concert. So check out my bootleg list (http://db.etree.org/matta75), pick out a show, email me (MattA75@aol.com), and I'll send a copy to you free of charge. Limit one show per person please. :)

Link of the Month

Clear Channel is almost GIVING AWAY seats to selected shows this summer. Wanna go to Lollapalooza (or another show) with a friend for $15 TOTAL? Check out this link:http://service.bfast.com/bfast/click?bfmid=37920209&siteid=40492669&bfpage=redir&loc=http%3A//www.stores.ebay.com/id%3D81777143

That's all for now, I'll be back next month, same Matt time, same Matt channel. Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go and start waiting in line for my Pearl Jam fan club seats for Wednesday.
