I will start off by saying, I think my apartment has ghost. I even have a memory of my landlord talking about it, but when I asked later it was denied. These ghost like to hide things from me. I will spend hours looking for something, and then later it will appear in plain site, even though KNOW I looked there already.
Prior to finding the “find on, Find all locator” at Radioshack.com I had purchased several key locators that worked not at all. But I wasn’t read to spend the $60 for Sharp Images version.
About the units that didn’t work:
I first purchased on that responded to whistling. This unit was “so effective” that it went off (loudly), when it was in your pocket, listening to the radio, or watching TV. I removed the battery after 3 hours. That unit cost me $9.99 at Walgreens. I also purchased a unit that responded to clapping that cost me $3.99 it never went off.
How it works
Unlike units that respond to sound this unit responds to radio frequency. You program it to respond to one of 6 numbers on another unit, after that you hit that number and it “should ring”. I also purchased Velcro at radio shack and velcroed the main unit to my door. That way I can take it off and start pressing the button until I find my keys.
If you have additional keys or additional items you may purchase more units at RadioShack and program then to the other numbers. This is my plan as soon as I find my other set of missing keys (still missing) I will purchase another bunch. Sadly Radioshack only sells them in packs of TWO, so I can't just purchase another key chain unit, but maybe I'll attach the flat unit to something I loose a lot, like my remote control.
Volume
I wish this unit was 3 or 4 times louder, lets be honest, if your keys are missing they might be under stuff, a couch, a bed, or yesterdays suite, this unit really isn’t very loud and you have to strain to figure out where the beep beep beep is coming from.
But it is Better than nothing.
