Nokia 3310 - An All Time Great!
Written: Jul 30 '01
I received this phone one month and what a SUPERB phone it is!! it is extremely light and looks wonderful as well.
I'll take you through the key features:
Voice Dialling: Hold the menu button down, say a name and it'll dial that number! How cool is that!
Phone Book: The Phone book can hold up to 100 numbers and up to 8 of these can have Voice Dialling. One very useful feature is that you can preset certain ringing tones for certain people!!
Messages: This phone has the excellent T9 Predictive Text, which makes typing messages twice as quick. It can hold around 10 pictures messages (Remember a picture paints a thousand words!). These are a bit crude graphically, but are fun to receive. The best thing, however, is that you can send messages 3 times as long as normal because it strings 3 together.
Chat: This is a clever feature which is not available outside Nokia phones. It allows you to have text message conversations with other phone users - just like on-line internet chatting!
Call Register: This function tells you what numbers you dialed last, (Also, you can do this when your phone is on the main screen by pressing the up key) what numbers last called you, and what calls you have missed.
Tones: This phone has 35 preset ringing tones (including the famous Nokia tune), and it can compose 7 of its own. I found this feature incredibly useful because lots of people have Nokia's, so if you have a composed ringtone, chances are that you wont get confused with somebody else's phone going off in the street. It has 5 volumes stages (1 is low, 5 is high), and I tend to have it on 4. This phone has a vibrate feature which is useful when a ringtone is not appreciated. It also has several "beeps" when you receive a message and its here where you can change your screensaver.
Settings: This is basically where you can change the settings on your calls, phone and security. It is just like other Nokia phones really.
Call Divert: This is used when you want your calls diverted to your answer machine in certain situations.
Games: My Favourite! There are 4 brilliant games in this sub menu; Snake 2, Space Impact, Pairs 2, and Bantumi. When you are playing a game, the phone will vibrate say when you are shooting aliens in Space Impact and you hit the wall in Snake 2. My favourite game is Snake 2, and my top score is 1006, I know it's not very good, but I am improving!!
Calculator: This is just a basic calculator built into the phone, though it is useful when you are in the supermarket and you need to add up the price of all the beer you have brought, to check if you are over budget.
Reminder: I thought I would rarely use this feature, but it has turned out to be a godsend since I am so forgetful! it is just like an alarm clock, but it displays what you need to be reminded of, provided you program that into the phone first.
Clock: This is basically an area where you can set up the date and the time.
Profiles: These are useful, I have General on most of the time, but silent is good in quiet places and you can make up your own profile as well. You can also edit the preset profiles.
With fantastic looks, superb call quality, no antenna and the option to change the front and back covers whenever you want, this really is the phone of the year!
