Your eyesight with lasik surgery will not be as good as it is with eyeglasses and you will have side effects that are, at best, annoying.

A bit too biased (Reply to this comment)

This procedure is definitely not for everyone and it is almost impossible to predict the outcome in the best of candidates. I think what should be stressed in cases like this one, there is something to be said for doing only one eye at a time. That's how I did it to my eyes having had it done to each eye about a year apart.

I wanted to be sure how well the first eye turned out before committing to the same procedure on the 2nd eye. Actually, the second time around I switch surgeons and "upgraded" to the Interlase (all Laser) LASIK which was just emerging at the time I did the first eye.

I'm glad I waited and it gave me all the more confidence in a successful outcome based on the latest technology available. It also gave me a change to try out Monovision, which effectively is what I had after correcting only the first (dominate) eye for best distance vision, leaving my other eye mildly myopic (nearsighted). After trying a contact lens "correction" in the latter
for optimized Monovision, as well as another for best corrected distance vision in both eyes, I opted for the latter.

The bottom line, do not rush into doing ANY laser correction surgery. Make sure you have thoroughly explored all possible options and/or alternatives.

This wasn't bargain lasik or an inexperienced doctor which leads me to conclude that some side effects are going to be encountered regardless of the surgeon, it's built in to the procedure.

Good points (Reply to this comment)

I'm sorry that your outcome wasn't what you hoped for. I think you made some very good points about the downside of Lasik, but many people have had excellent results. I think a lot depends on the surgeon, and also on your eyes.

I wish I could do it but I have severe astigmatism, so not a good candidate. Is there any chance you can have it redone, or would that not be a good idea or will it improve over time?
