I honestly wish... (Reply to this comment)

...I had caught your review before I "rejoined" Columbia House, this time around. I ordered my initial shipment of 12 CD's and got billed about $40.00 for shipping. As I too am in the mail order business, I know fully well that this package cost them less than $10.00 to ship since they bulk mail...the other $30.00 is pure profit for them.
I am currently a member of their DVD club as well and actually enjoy that phase of the operation, but once my contract is completed with Columbia House Music Club, this time, I'm gone to stay.
Great review...

I ended up.... (Reply to this comment)

... in your husband's situation-- owing the &%#$@* company money, but no CDs coming my way. It took me almost a year to get them out of my life-- and they STILL dump their garbage offers in my mailbox. The company seems bigger than ever, so I guess the old "there's a sucker born every minute" saying still holds true. Nice article!

I have a similar distaste for Columbia House... (Reply to this comment)

Once I finally finished my obligation - and lost a ridiculous amount of money to shipping and handling - they kept hassling me! Representatives continued calling me for I don't even know what, even after I specifically asked to be removed from their mailing lists, etc.
The company is bad news all around!
My newfound place to purchase my CD's is half.com - it's a much more honest purchasing atmosphere!
Thanks for the review :)

I got burned (Reply to this comment)

I got burned by the music club that I joined. Since I've always found CD's to be outrageously expensive, I've never purchased a CD player, preferring to stay with less pricey cassettes. Unfortunately, my music club just informed me that they're phasing out cassettes, leaving only the expensive CD's. Figures, right?

How can they charge you $5 PER CD if they're shipping them TOGETHER! Am I missing something? It doesn't cost $50 to ship a box of CDs--more like $5. It sounds Like they're charging customers (probably about cost) for the CDs and CALLING it shipping and handling. Is that LEGAL? I'll avoid this club like the plague.
