Cascade is a product I've been using for decades. I like this product because it eliminates the pre rinse. My hubbie likes the dogs to lick the plates as a pre rinse but I've convinced him this is not socially acceptable and basically disgusting. But back to the product.
Cascade helps dishes dry fast. Another hubbie and I split opinions on. He likes them to air day opening the dryer door and letting them sit, saving electricity or energy. I find that I end up with glasses with puddles of water sitting in or on them. Since I'm the one who empties the dishes I go through the whole cycle . It helps dishes dry fast, I'm not sure how but it says it does and I believe them. Also, if you read the product information heat drying is more sanitary.
As much as I like to really, really load up the dishwasher, there's only two of us at home so it takes a long,long time to get a good size load. The Cascade people say small loads are more energy efficient than hand washing though so I still use the dishwasher.
More product information tells us it takes between 6-10 gallons of water to run the dishwasher compared to 9-24 gallons to wash by hand. Pretty surprising. I was the official dishwasher when I grew up, my Mom got a dishwasher when I moved out so I'm not real keen on dishwashing, plus with my less than terrific eyesight due to my advanced age I miss a lot when doing them by hand. Yuk.
Cascade recommends completely filling both dispensers to eliminate spotting (and/or add Jet Dry )(see my review on Jet Dry). We have extremely hard water I don't know if that's factored in. Now, in Florida we're on water restriction so we have all sorts of issues to address.
Cascade has now added scents to their line. They have Orchard Splash and Citrus Breeze so you're kitchen smells great when the dishwasher runs. I's the heat in the dishwasher that generates the nice scent. I'm very big on pleasant scents. I grew up in a home with monkeys so I'm sort of scarred in this area. I need my home to smell terrific.
Cascade comes in an easy to spot bright green box with the word Cascade in bright red. Cascade Pure rinse Fresh Scent is the Cascade version I prefer right now but I will try the other scents when this one runs out. This added scent gives off a very pleasant smell as it works with the heat from the dishwasher .
Cascade offers "Shine Shield". Shine shield cleans so thoroughly nothing is left but the shine according to the box. It helps stop permanent damage before it starts. It neutralizes the etching affect you'll see on old glass ware, that cloudy look that never seems to go away.
The Cascade label says it will help prevent etching. This is terrific for my glass ware. I have some plastic mugs that are now cleaner looking due to the Cascade and I really like the way Cascade works with them. I have the $9.68 or 155 oz box. It's a bit hard to lift at first but it's less expensive to buy big.
Cascade is safe for septic tanks, we have septic in New Jersey. So this is very important to those of us who live in the boonies and have septic, that's the last thing you want to have to have problems with. Septic problems can be extremely costly.
The Cascade box is 90% recycled paper-a good thing as Martha would say. We recycle with a passion.
I tried the Cascade gel but found it to be very disappointing. For some reason it just doesn't work as well as my regular Cascade.
