My guys seem to like the glass pinch-waist Perky Pet feeder and the Garden Jewels pinch-waist 20-oz. model with the crank-out perches. Both are available at Home Depot or any other big home center, or on the 'net. Good luck!

Margaret,
I will do. I was at a local Ace Hardware today, but I didn't see any humming bird feeders. I will have to check out other stores this weekend.

all of this. I own and operate a day care and have unsuccessfully tried several times with humming bird feeders. I didn't know about the red, or a bunch of the other things you have put into this most excellent review. I will have to try again with the knowledge I have gained! Thanks.

I'm always amazed and impressed by their boldness, and your story just confirms it. I once caught one dive-bombing my very sick cat, who had innocently wandered out onto the patio for some sun. That microbird just wasn't going to permit anything out there, and I had to bring my cat into the house. That's where "Genghis Khan" came from!

feeding of hummingbirds. You are absolutely right about how territorial they are---many years ago when my wife and I lived in West Texas I watched a hummingbird repeatedly attack a burrowing owl (the owl was about thirty times the hummer's size) until the owl finally gave up his perch on a fence post that just happened to be right above a blooming cactus.
I couldn't believe how fearless and tenacious the little guy was, he just refused to accept the presence of an interloper, even one thirty times his size.

Never would have thought about the nectar fermenting -- yikes! Your observations, tips and suggestions are Very Helpful, indeed!
And thanks for your comment on my Corpgent's W/O entry. How fun to find I have a long, lost cousin on Epinions! :)
