Actually,
I played the first mission of the game five times in three days, before finally walking two miles to the mall to buy the memory card.

How Stupid I Am (Reply to this comment)

Hi Matt,
When I first bought my Sony Playstation, it was exclusively so that I could play Final Fantasy VII. I brought it home and started playing. I got to the first save point. Then, I had to call up my neighbor across the street (a twelve year old kid, when I was sixteen) to ask, "Hey, man, what's a memory card?"

Kev- yeah, but you know what would be a better idea? Learning how to play 2nd base, saving it to the card, then ramming it into offermans empty head.

Clarissa- you want an unused generic controller? I got it when i bought the memory card that didnt work, and the light gun that wasn't very accurate, and didnt work with every game. That was annoying. You're free to have it if you want it.
Kath- I went to walmart to buy this, and didn't see one single game below 50bucks. That is just plain expensive! I doubt I'll get many more.
Tony- yeah, I remember those bad old days. When I got my ps1, I couldnt even use it because I didnt have those inputs in my tv for the three pronged cable thing, had to go out and find somewhere that had the converter cable that was like the old nintendo one. SOOOOO ANNOYING!
I'm glad sony doesn't make a car, you'd probably have to buy Sony gas for it.

The extra stuff is a scam (Reply to this comment)

But they are things you need so what in the hell can you do? I remember getting my PS1 when it launched in Sept 95 it had regular RCA audio video connectors on the back. The Japanese version also added the S-video output.
You could go with the cables in the box, or get some nice Monster cable. But then Sony started using their own special connectors, I wonder why?
Now Sony gets paid if you want the S-video or a longer cable or whatever. Even if Sony did not make it, chances are they have to pay royalties to Sony.
non-Sony memory cards have NEVER had a good track record, and it's not worth saving five bucks, especially for RPG game players that might have spent some serious time to get the level they are at. You are right there, go Sony for the memory card.

and they sure know how to get your hard earned money don't they? No memory included, or second controller....and the cost of games is ridiculous ..wow, they've really got a racket going for themselves.
Keep up the great writing...kath

on this Matt. Those unlicensed products are bad. I think the generic memory cards also tend to corrupt your saved game data.
We had a generic controller that blew out the fuse in my PSX, so we had to solder a wire across it instead.
Amazing how such a tiny little piece of hardware can cost so much.
