The prices I listed are AVERAGE prices for these cards (I strictly did a mathematical average using several prices.) The price range for the GeForce 2 Ultras is because prices varied so much. Of course, you are right, you can find the cards for much less if you shop around. You can probably get a GeForce 3 for $100 on Ebay if you look long enough. You had a nice point, however, which is that you really should shop around if you want to save 1-2 hundred dollars on video cards.

Geforce's (Reply to this comment)

"The GeForce 2 Ultra's are still fairly expensive ($350-450). Even compared to a $500 GeForce 3, the card still compares admirably... who the hell spends $500 on a video card?!"

Pretty good review overall, but these prices for Geforce cards are WAY off. Geforce 2 Ultra's haven't been "$350-450" since last year, and can now be found for about $250. A quick check of Pricewatch.com even shows OEM Geforce 2 Ultra cards going for $199.

As for the "$500" price of Geforce 3's, the suggested retail price for some of the Geforce 3 cards is near $500 but if you know where to look you can usually find them for $350-400. I've even seen retail Geforce 3's for as low as $325, with OEM versions available for $299 on Pricewatch.

Of course, there's always certain stores that continue to gouge consumers on graphics cards (for some reason, they seem to be the most over-priced items at many stores, probably because the stores are too slow to update the prices on them) but it's all a matter of shopping around using sites like techbargains.com, mysimon.com, pricewatch.com, etc).
