| marytara's Full Review: Sakar iConcepts Gel Armband Case for iPod Nano |
The first case that I purchased for my iPod Nano was the DLO Action Jacket in black. Not only was it expensive at at least $20, I couldn't stand the thing for 2 big reasons.
1. The "play-through case" was not functional and caused me a lot of aggravation to manipulate my click-wheel.
2. To use the case with an elastic armband (for working out) you use the belt clip to attach the case to the elastic band, making it largely unsecure.
Enter the Sakar iConcepts Gel Armband Case for iPod Nano which my hubby purchased for me. He picked them up on sale and had gotten the 2 pack plus armband for less than $7. He'd selected this product for me because he knew how I complained of the plastic covering the click-wheel on my other case, and saw that this case had a cutout for the click-wheel. He also suspected that I'd like this one because 1 of the cases is PINK. Of course, he was right. I was very excited to have a pink case, and put that one on my Nano right away. The other case in the 2 pack is clear, which is just not all that exciting to me - but good to have as a back-up.
Good Stuff
The Sakar iConcepts Gel Armband Case has a lot going for it. First of all, a great price - under $10 and you get 2 cases and an armband. Next, I'm all about the "look" which is hip and fun - and pretty in pink, in my case. My 2 pack contained a pink and a clear gel case, but I understand that other colors are available. The gel case is rubber like plastic covering that stretches over your 2nd Gen Nano and fits it like a glove. Its very easy to put the case on my Nano and once on - it looks great. This case has cut-out areas so that the screen, click, wheel, dock, and headphone jack are accessible. I'm able to plug my Nano into my DLO TransDock while in my car while in the case, no problem. But, most importantly - I'm able to access the click wheel and navigate my iPod easily because there's no plastic piece covering over the click-wheel to frustrate me like on the
DLO Action Jacket. Using this case with the elastic armband is very secure. To attach the case to the armband you thread the elastic armband through the 2 slots on the back of the gel case. I'm confident that my Nano isn't going to go fall off and get damaged or lost because its held in place securely. Unlike my DLO Action Jacket which just clipped onto the armband, this armband is a lot more secure.
Not so Good Stuff
I take the good with the bad, and this case does have its downs. For being under $10, I didn't expect it to work miracles. While I appreciate that the click-wheel is exposed for manipulation purposes, I wish it had some kind of screen protector. The screen is also "cut out" and exposed, so it makes me a little paranoid. The case itself is soft so it provides just a medium amount of protection in terms of dropping it, or carrying it in my bag. The plastic is stretchy but the case isn't meant to be removed and put on multiple times. I can see where it could easily rip or tear as it gets stretched out. Another downside to the gel material is that I find it to be a lint/dust magnet so my pretty pink case will not be so pretty sooner than later.
Overall
I'm quite pleased with the iConcepts Gel Armband Case for the iPod Nano and definitely recommend it if you are looking for an inexpensive, attractive, functional and secure way to wear your Nano with an armband.
