| Bryan_Carey's Full Review: Cascade Lemon Dishwasher Gel Detergent |
I use an automatic dishwasher for most of my dish- cleaning needs and I have been known to switch back and forth between different brands of dishwashing liquid each time I shop. One brand that has produced consistently good results is Cascade Lemon Gel, a product from Proctor & Gamble.
Basic Facts About This Product:
Cascade Lemon Gel is a thick, white colored liquid with a scent that includes lemon along with various chemicals. Because of its thick consistency, it has to be squeezed out of its plastic container.
Speaking of the bottle, Cascade is housed in the familiar green- colored package that has become its trademark. The bottle is wide in front, but narrow in terms of depth so that it is easy to store in a narrow space. To keep kids out of harms way, Cascade includes a child- proof cap that must be squeezed on opposite sides in order to open. Once open, the thick gel is dispensed by turning the bottle upside down and squeezing until the gel releases itself.

Final Thoughts:
Cascade Lemon Gel is one of my most frequently purchased automatic dishwashing detergents. I have no particular loyalty for any specific brand when it comes to detergent for the dishwasher. I change brands frequently, purchasing whatever happens to catch my eye on each visit to the grocery.
Cascade is a very good detergent for several reasons. Most important among them is its ability to get dishes consistently clean. I have experienced some dishwasher detergents that didnt get dishes clean on the first try, forcing me to either wash them by hand or send them through the dishwasher a second time. Cascade, however, gets it right the first time. It also includes a special formula Cascade refers to as Pure Shine Shield. This helps to protect glassware from water marks and it does, indeed, perform as promised. I dont know if it is similar to Jet Dry or some other product formulated to eliminate spots, but it works nonetheless.
I like the scent of lemon and this is another reason why I like Cascade Lemon Gel. However, dont buy this product with the understanding that it will smell exactly like the lemon dishwashing detergent you buy for the purpose of washing dishes by hand. It has a chemical smell along with its lemon aroma. The scent is the result of added chlorine, and this is one of the reasons why Cascade is so effective at getting dishes clean. Dont worry that this added chlorine scent will attach itself to your dishes. It doesnt. The dishes come out smelling only slightly like lemon and there is no trace of the scent of chlorine at all.
Along with the chlorine, Cascade Lemon Gel contains sodium hydroxide and sodium silicate. Because of this, it is important to call a poison control center if accidentally ingested. The manufacturer recommends drinking a glassful of water or milk, but vomiting should not be induced. If the product gets in your eyes, they should be quickly flushed with water.
Cascade recommends filling both dishwasher cups with this liquid whenever you wash dishes, but from my experience, unless dishes are extremely dirty or the dishwasher is loaded to the hilt, there is no need to use this much Cascade. Filling only the main cup is usually all that is needed to get dishes clean.
This automatic dishwashing liquid costs a little more than most others. It is sold in two sizes, costing about $3.50 for a 50 ounce bottle or $4.75 for a 75 ounce bottle. This is a little costlier than other brands, but many agree that Cascade is worth the price. It gets the job done better than most; attacking food and grease and removing them from your dishes, leaving behind smooth surfaces that shine. I will still continue to buy and trust other brands, but Cascade will remain on my potential buying list whenever I am in the need for dishwasher detergent.
