Being a fan of Monolith games since the original Blood, I was happily surprised when I began playing this game. Monolith had such a good blend of humor and gameplay in Blood, which was missing in the sequel and in other games they developed. In NOLF these things are back, along with a few new things.
Installation
I didn't have any problems with the install of this game, and like most games today, it used over 500 megs of space. There are a couple or so patches out there now, so don't forget to get those.
Graphics
The Lithtech engine is a very good looking engine, even if it tends to look a little cartoonish. The edges are pretty sharp, and evidenced by this game, the possibilities are very good for variation in the game.
The Gameplay
Now, this is where this game shines. If you've ever wanted to be in nearly all the James Bond movies, plus the Austin Powers movies, this is your chance. The game pokes fun at many different Bond flicks, and that is perhaps why it reminds me of Austin Powers also. (Besides the color scheme).
There are so many fun missions in this game, that I couldn't possibly talk about all of them. One of my favorites however, is when you have to escape from a plane that has been hijacked and set to crash. You must find a parachute and get out. Well, you find the last parachute, the only problem is that it is strapped to the back of a guy who just jumped out of the plane. So what do you do? Jump out without one! Then your mission changes to catching him in midair and taking his away from him.
Also, many of the missions give you a higher score if you can do it without getting caught or shooting anyone in the process. Another of my favorites goes even further and says you cannot get caught. You must sneak around and complete the tasks you have. You can create diversions by lighting a fire in a wastebasket, and time your movements so as not to get caught by the security cameras.
Conclusion
This game will definately have a sequel, and I just hope it is as good as the original. The plot can get cheesy, but if you have seen enough Bond films, you will see that it is all in fun. I would definately recommend this game to any 3D game fans, and if you enjoyed Half-Life you will probably also enjoy this. Also, by this time the price on the game should be down, and you may even see it in bargain bins before too long.
