With the coming of the Computer Age, we have access to a whole new way of keeping in touch with friends and family. I was amazed to find out that there is actually etiquette involved with sending e-cards. Did you know that it is fine to send an e-card for someone's birthday, but when writing a thank-you note it is best to send one that is handwritten? If you do indeed decide to use an e-card service, you should check out Ohmygoodness.com.
How Do I Look?
The site itself is very eye-pleasing. The graphics are different from most computer images. They have a softer quality, almost like a cartoon. The site is also very easy to navigate with labeled buttons to dream up any creation your heart desires.
What's New?
This is the first thing you see on the site. It is located at the top left corner so that you can find easy access to the newest cards and messages. When I clicked on the button, it led me to a listing of nearly 80 new cards. Some are simply depictions, some are animated and still more are animated and musical! They also range in taste, from mild to offensive. You have been forewarned!
Card of the Day
Each day a new card is featured in this category. Usually it corresponds with the current season or holiday and you get a preview right on the first page of the site. Today's card is entitled Sink or Swim and is animated. This is a nice option if you want to send a quick hello to someone, but don't have a lot of time to search for an appropriate card: one click and you may start composing.
Current Themes
Have a little time and want to find the perfect card to say hello? Under this category are themes that aren't always available at all times of the year. Some categories are indeed available at any time, but are highlighted. The current themes, er, currently are: Summer, Friendship, Travel, Dieting and Zodiac.
Address Book
If you become a regular user of this site, it might not be a bad idea to use this feature. All you have to do is register with a name and password and you may store addresses to whomever you wish to send cards. It makes sending card faster and simpler.
Search
If you are searching for a card in particular, this site has a search feature! Simply type in the occasion, or subject matter and you will be rewarded with five of your resulting searches in the form of a preview per page. I typed in the word "naked" and was rewarded with 3 pages worth of cards with naked people on them! It also gives the percentage of each match. On my first page, all of my matches are 100% and indeed there is a naked person on each. You can also search for pictures under their keyword picture search. This is a very helpful tool when you have an exact idea about the kind of card you'd like to send.
Newsletter
If you are a real fan of this site, you can subscribe to their newsletter to keep up with the current events of the e-card world.
A to Z Categories
Here is an alphabetical listing of any e-card genre you can imagine. This is an easy way to navigate through the tons of cards that this site has to offer. Some categories here include: Back to School, Groundhog Day and Flirting. That is just a small sampling of the nearly 100 categories.
OhMyGoodness gifts
So many cute things! If you really enjoy the art work and humor of OhMyGoodness.com, you can create your own messages to go with the artwork and have it printed on T-shirts, boxers, calendars, etc.
Wallpapers
If you have a boring screen, like mine, and would like to change that, you can download one of over 50 wallpapers at OhMyGoodness.com. They have just as many themes as you can imagine, all with their trademark artwork. It even gives you the resolution of your screen and tells you what wallpaper would look best for you. They even have a way to send the page to someone else.
Chat
This site must have a large fan base for it to need its own chat rooms! It has 4 different OhMyGoodness rooms of varying degrees of difficulty and loading times. They are all Java based programs. Another perk is that you can send a postcard to all of your chat buddies.
Customer Service
If you do have a problem with the site, or a comment, a customer service link is provided. It is simply an email address, which I find simple and nice. I dislike having to answer half a dozen questions simply to report a bug. They also have a partnership site, if you have your own website.
That's a wrap!
Though this is a fantastic e-card site, I do have one word of caution: there are cards here that may offend you. They are generally light hearted and whimsical, but some do portray naked people in compromising positions. If this sounds like something that may bother you, you may find this site to be a bit tasteless. However, I find it hilarious.
