Strangely, I found myself with one of these after an office gift exchange - I'd inadvertently started an arms race when I equipped our graphic artists with small Nerf dart guns, and a few weeks later *everybody* had a Nerf or other kind of "gun", which made life very interesting after the office closed for the day.
The Vortex Tornado is a fairly powerful gun that shoots little rubber rings. It is accurate up to about fifty or sixty feet (yes, we "tested" this under various conditions) and hits hard enough to knock over a styrofoam cup half full of water (or coffee!). You could probably hurt someone with one of these if you hit them in the eye or ear.
The rings bounce weirdly depending on what they hit. They're pretty soft, but they spin, so they *feel* like they're hitting harder than would be expected from the speed at which the ring flies.
This is not a toy for younger kids - I'd think that 10 or 12 *might* be old enough, under supervision.
