Product Rating: 3.0 Recommended: No

Pros: appearance, room, options
Cons: brakes, power windows, gas mileage, plus more to be named
The Bottom Line: go Japanese; Honda, Toyota, or Hyundai as they seem to make things worth the money and not gouge you in the wallet

My wife and I always wanted a Grand Caravan as we loved the looks and room and they were all over so we figured they must be good.

We bought our Grand Caravan SXT in 2004 used, believe it or not. Did lots of research on the history of the van and it was all good.

About 6 months after getting the van, the engine would jerk and hesitate, really sounded like something was wrong. Called the dealer and the "expert" tech told us that the fuel injectors were pitch black covered in Carbon. He said this was not covered in the warranty as it was a maintenance item. The van only had 15k miles on it, no way in heck should it need this $200 "maintenance". I ended up just buying the fuel injector cleaner, gased the van up and dumped it into the tank and that seemed to fix that issue.

It has been 3 years now and I just spent $500 for just parts, and I had to replace the spark plugs, plug wires, oxygen sensors, tie rod end sense it already was worn out and couldn't get a good alignment, new rotors, all new brake pads, not to mention the $400 in tires I just put on it. This is the 3rd set of brake pads and this thing only has $50k miles on it and is lightly driven. The brake pads don't wear evenly. The inner pads are gone while the outer still mostly remain. I buy the top of the line parts and somehow no matter what I try the brake pads rust to the dam calipers and don't move freely. The calipers are fine. If you like having to use a metal file and clean up the calipers ever year it's great.

The power window on the passenger side works sometimes, both motor powered sliding doors stopped working, the passenger side power sliding door won't even make a noise now and I seldom used them with the fear of this exact thing occuring.

Forgot to mention the depreciation on these things is absolute murder. Leasing is the way to go here, either way it is a money pit.

Stick with Honda, Toyota, or Hyundai as they seem to made to last.
