I love MaxStudio clothes and have bought them from various retailers including Bloomingdales and Nordstrom. Being the internet shopper that I am, I had to check out their web site.
SHOPPING
I liked shopping this site. Of course, they only carry their own brand, so if you don't like Max Studio clothes, you probably shouldn't stop by. On the other hand, if you like Max Studio clothes, you will love the selection on this site.
The best part of this site is that the clothes are organized into outfits and shown on real (well, too thin to be actually real) models. I like seeing the clothes on people so I can get a better idea of how they fit and how the clothes look when worn.
Given that this site is only for Max Studio clothes, it doesn't really try to sell you on the clothes. I guess they assume, if you are shopping there, you are already a customer. They give basic descriptions of the clothes but there isn't much else. Also, not surprisingly, there are no customer reviews.
ORDERING
The site wasn't great about loading my cart. I would pick an item that seemed to be in stock but when I added it, I was informed they had no stock. I did end up selecting two sale shirts they did have and then checked out.
The check out process was pretty easy and non-invasive. I had to only provide basic information. I didn't need to create a password or a profile. They also didn't attempt to spam me or sign me up for lists.
The one thing that bugged me is that I put my credit card information in before they finalized my order. I wasn't sure if they were going to process my card before I got a screen to check that everything was right. As it turned out, I did get one final screen to proof before I made my decision, so it all worked out.
STEALS AND DEALS
After clicking around on the site, I found that if I took a one page survey that required me to reveal my age, gender and some other personal information, I could get a percentage off my order. I don't know if they always run these deals but it was nice to save about $20 on my order.
This site offered free shipping on orders over $100 which is pretty much going to cover all orders. Most items they sell are close to or over $100.
This site participates in rebates sites. I got 5% off my order by going through Ebates.
SHIPPING
My two shirts took exactly one week to arrive. They were each wrapped in plastic and came in a sturdy box that could easily be used for a return if I needed to make one.
RETURNS
I ended up not liking one of the shirts that I bought. I was able to put it back in the box they shipped it with. I had to fill out one piece of paper and had to drop it off and pay postage at my local post office. This was a little more burdensome than some sites that arrange for the post office or UPS to pick up the package at your house.
I assume the store got my return in about a week. I didn't get any email or other acknowledgement that they had received my return. A credit showed up on my credit card about 3 weeks after I sent the shirt back.
Overall, I was disappointed with the return process. It was harder to make the return that it is with some other stores. I had to pay return shipping which is common. However, I would have liked them to email me or send me a postcard stating they received my return. Also, I would have expected the credit a little faster.
FINAL RECOMMENDATION
I like Max Studio clothes and think this is a pretty cool site where you can buy them. The web site could use a little more glitz but it worked okay. The shipping process was fast and the box was sturdy. However, the return process was no frills and not really up to the standard of a first-class store. Overall, I would give the experience just an average rating.
