| andruzzo's Full Review: Hewlett Packard PhotoSmart p1000 Ink-jet Printer |
I used to think that high-quality photos from a printer
only came from prohibitively expensive printers and required a professional to be done right. I also used
to believe that inkjets were a waste of money and that
the color printing they did was for simplistic stuff.
Well, hold everything! I recently bought a digital
camera (Canon S300) and, of course, needed a printer
to be able to reap the benefits of my new toy. Which
brand to buy wasn't too hard to decide. Only one name
stands out in printers nowadays, and that's Hewlett-Packard.
I've had a LaserJet 4M for years and have been most
happy with it and at work we have the 8100 which is
the greatest thing. So I was pretty much set on an HP.
It turns
out that I have two friends that work for the HP printer division. When I asked them what they recommended, they
instantly said: "The P1000". I needed some convincing
naturally, so they showed me printouts. I was floored!
I couldn't believe my eyes. I thought they were pulling my leg...so much that I had to actually see a printout coming
out of the printer to believe that that quality came out
of this machine! The final seal of approval came when
I found out that they both also have the same printer at
home.
The resolution is excellent: 2400X1200 on the glossy photo paper. It's not the fastest printer at 8.5 color pages per minute....but I didn't care that much about the speed. It
has USB connectivity and it even allows you to print from
smart media and compact flash cards without using a computer. You just pop your memory card into the side slots and it allows you to print the shots you want!
When I finally bought it and took it home I was up and
running in less than a minute. The actual unpacking took
longer than the install. My first printout came out
a few minutes after I actually set the box down...and
what a fabulous printout it was! I can't begin to describe
how vibrant and lifelike the printouts are. If you use
glossy photo paper (145lb stock), you would be extremely
hard pressed to see the difference from a real photo
print.
When I show people the 8.5" X 11" blowups of my summer
vacation pictures...their jaw drops and they are left
speechless. They can't believe it! Also, when I tell them
they price, they think I'm lying.
So, I can truly say that "I'm a believer". A believer
in that anyone at home can print photo-quality pictures
on an inkjet, at an affordable price and with the
click of a button!
