Pros:Beautiful Area And Beach, Large Pool Area, Open-Air Hotel
Cons:No Nightlife, No Restaurants
The Bottom Line: Great pool area and beach area. Hilton Head is beautiful and this hotle captures it all. Great rooms and service make for a great vacation.
I've been to Hilton Head twice now. It is one of my favorite places. Unlike heavily populated beach areas elsewhere, the beach and surrounding areas is so well kept. It's high class. Four years ago I stayed at the Palmetto Dunes area. We stayed at the same hour President Clint's secret service stayed at when he visited Hilton Head (His House Was Next To Ours). This time we were on our way to visit Amelia Island. We decided to take a break after 10+ hours of driving. The Hilton in Hilton Head was a pretty great hotel. I didn't get to experience much, because I was only staying for a day. The hotel is open air. It is so warm and let's you experience the beach more. The rooms were fairly larger then most. We got a porch overlooking the ocean, two queen sized beds, and a very large bathroom area. Our whole family stayed in one room. We got extra cots, which were gladly set up by room services. There are two large pools. One for kids and families. And a quite one for adults, nobody under 16 is allowed. There are two whirlpool hot tubs also. There is a beachside bar and grill. The whole outside is one big boardwalk over there intricate design of a moat with large fish and other wildlife. It's very interesting. They have preserved much of the landscape and wildlife. You can walk through and view little signs telling you about what plant you are looking at. It leads right to the beach. Their beach is clean and beautiful. One of the best on the East Coast. Sand Dollars live on the bottom. We picked up a few, dried them out, and made pretty Christmas Ornaments out of them. My only complaint with the Hilton is that they have no nightlife. The bar closed at 5PM. They aren't any restaurants so you have to go off the resort. But the Palmetto Dunes area is the best around in Hilton Head. You need to pass security to get in. There are Tennis Courts and pathways for bikes. It's a great area for the Hilton. It is about 20-30 miles off I-95 and the traffic gets pretty backed up. It took us an hour to get to the hotel after we got off the Interstate. Overall it was a great hotel for you to experience the pool and beach area. Great family hotel.
