And again one of the reasons that I left this sight originally. The owner has very little interest in those who write for this sight and make HIM money.

Kristina.

I'm sorry that you lost your TR position. But you still are a TR in music as far as I'm concerned. As the lyrics of Ms. Aguilera's hit go:

You are beautiful no matter what they say
Words can't bring you down, oh no
'Cause you are beautiful in every single way
Yes, words can't bring you down, oh no

Keep going strong and hang in there.

Kristina, I'm so sorry you lost it. I'm not quite sure what epinions was thinking, but you have written so many music reviews and you deserve that hat. You've been the first to write about popular CD's and all your reviews are of high quality. While you are juggling many hats, I'm not quite sure what more epinions can possibly ask you to do for the music area.

Re: Never trust anyone at epinions (Reply to this comment)

Tony speaks words of precision & wisdom in regards to a situation that I -too- dealt with.

Thankfully some CL's actually do communicate with the TR's & A's, allowing the member to understand needed areas of improvement. And those CL's should be commended for taking on the role of coach, guiding the member toward maintaining the titles they are proud of. You know who wins in that situation? Everyone. The titled member, whose titles were in jeopardy, grows & maintains interest in the site, and truly a working relationship prospers. In turn epinions receives more reviews.

I can't speak on behalf of music but I certainly know the shaft I received in a category that meant a lot to me (and that I had maintained TR & A status for a substantial period of time). So I fully understand the sting that Kris is dealing with, as do _too many_ others on this site. I remember receiving the de-hat bot letters, clueless that I was going to be stripped. That stung. My inspiration for that category fizzled, and my respect for the Epinions management went down several notches. A category that I had been loyal to had just kicked me in the behind. Epinions lost in the situation, due to severely decreased review submission (to this date there are no reviews on the epinions site, on several that I have in draft).

I hope that this isn't the same fate with music and Kris. Because I would hate to think that I wouldn't be blessed with her awesome music reviews. Try not to let the dehat extinguish your flame to share about music Kris. Although with this act from epinions, I certainly would understand. Its like a rug being ripped from under your feet.

Unfortunately it often does come down to a 'bone that someone has to pick' with certain members, or a power trip of sorts. Yes the CL can present a seemingly sound case to EP management. But does ep management look for solid proof? Um, doesn't appear that way. This practice is dangerous on the management part and is driving loyal contributors away, or at least causing a severe loss of passion for the site. Sure the CL can scream 'look how many block this person' but when the CL has shaped the Advisor list it becomes rather easy to create an area that is full of her/his personal friends. And the CL(s) can fling false accusations, attempting to justify her/his actions, but again, does eps seek proof and where is the dang respect for the loyal member???????????? The system, as a whole, allows for vendettas. In the end it isn't good for epinions as a business.

Yes politics are HUGE in some categories, but there are good CL's that actually communicate, coach, and lead. For those select, I am glad.

This whole situation shows that the system needs some serious improvement. Once again the membership is asking for better communication, less political vendettas, and more respect.

**sigh**

I was all set to tell you to stop your whining, some of us write tons of reviews and nobody picks us as TRs in any category, let alone five, and other miscellaneous ranting....

Then I check my e-mail box and realize that I actually was selected a TR in Music, at which point I smacked myself on the head and called myself Shirley.

Now, feeling redeemed, I have to agree, it really is ridiculous for Epinions to toss you out. I have a little under 13K hits for my reviews, and you have that many hits for single reviews. In comparison, I'm a tiny little fishie.

As the dozens of other TRs and Advisors have told you already, this is almost certainly a temporary condition. At some point, the powers that be will get their heads out of their collective *sses and let you back into the TR world.

Best of luck to you.

Though your Music hat is STILL there today (which I guess means that more in the process has been botched than your de-selection), the last time I looked the Member Center was soliciting evaluations of Category Leads, so I'd suggest that your many fans might add comments there. That the most recently chosen roster of TRs (and advisors) is not up four days after notices went out makes it impossible to review the lists any category's leads have made. Whatever the mysterious algorithms of nominations, the leads can add or subtract from the lists the machine spits up.

Considering how much more intense the irritation at being deselected is for a long-time TR than the thrill of becoming one is, I'd suggest to epinions that anyone who has been one for 4 cycles should receive (an invisible to anyone else probation for one term with specific feedback on what aspects they have become deficient in performing. Books CLs operate at the opposite extreme of not dropping TRs who have posted one or fewer reviews in the past year.

You're already getting waves of support, but let me add mine. Of course you were treated wretchedly; of course you deserved some sort of warning. Of course your treatment seems really random, since lots of Top Reviewers go for months without writing much. But i hope your Dishwalla review after this wasn't a fluke. The corporation doesn't value you; fine. But we do.

best,

Okay, that is seriously messed up. I would almost swear just a few minutes ago it said you were trusted by 905 members. I saw it with my very own eyes, Captain! Right there! Then I went off to check out your Dishwalla review and saw that you were back up to 1062 or 1067 or whatever it is now. So I don't know what happened there. Sheez, should I delete that comment now? LOL that is so totally embarrassing... I think I will. How the heck could I have messed that up? That is gonna drive me crazy now.

Maybe I just need to go to bed!
Love love love love love you and I'm glad you didn't actually lose all those!

Gasp! I can assure you that I didn't lose 150 trusters in a day, week, or even month over this! In fact, this week I've added a handful...

Are you having issues with your math again :).

Has never ALWAYS been a warmhearted "come here and give me a hug..thank you for your time and support" kind of business...which is why I fear I may never become a TR or Advisor in ANY category, even for the time I do contribute to the site.

There are many issues I would like to bring forward and discuss with people, but have not done so for fear of uncontrolled backlash by the Epinions multitudes. You know, throwing arguments at me and telling me my logic is faulty and I'm an otherwise bad person for not having formulated a rock solid foundation against why I think the system is flawed....

Oh well, we can't do everything, can we...

I'm very sorry Kristin.

The selection still seems strange to me. You do seem to have both quality and quantity over the long term. I am sure you will get the hat back. Please don't be discouraged and continue to write. Your music reviews are some of the few I read in that category.

Re: there is a reason that I dont write in music anymore (Reply to this comment)
by kristinafh
Robert Babe,

Aw man...don't hate the music section. For the most part, the people who write reviews have a real passion for their music. Not for one moment do I think that my de-hatting had anything to do with someone else being elevated to the title.

Even if that was the case - everything comes down to the lack of human intervention in the process. If this is how selections will occur in the future, they are better off with just eliminating the CL program. I mean...I'm STILL waiting for that email apologizing for not letting me know that 6 weeks ago, I failed to make a "magical" number and was there a) something going on or b) could I pick up my activity...

Much love, Kristina

Marsha Babe,

hope that gives you a teeny bit of comfort, perspective, whatever, but how they treated you doesn't make you any less of a person. In fact, how they treated you may make you a better person.

Ahhhh! You so know how to get to the bottom of what eats at me. It IS a self-esteem issue and you're right - I really need to separate out the fact that how I was treated was more of a reflection of their lack of character then a reflection on me as a person.

sigh

I'm sure it's gets easier with time :)

Much love, Kristina

Tony Babe,

Epinions claims to have a system, but it seems to be one that only they understand. I think it's politics. Someone, somewhere within epinions had or has a bone to pick with you.

Ah! Yes, but it's not actually an employee of epinions unless you count a CL as one. I think my main mistake was that I remained neutral when she and another music individual had it out. I figured that the relationship was between them and I wasn't going to get into the middle of it.

So much for being Switzerland :).

Hey Mobi,

So you lost a hat. You had it for a long time. You are likely to hold it again. What's the big deal?

The big deal is the way I was treated in the process. That's it. The promise made to this community over a year ago was that there was a human factor that went into the selection process. Supposedly, the new system wasn't just a numbers game.

I believed.

Lesson learned.

Never trust anyone at epinions (Reply to this comment)
by sslabs
I learned that over two years ago. People that run this site stabbed me in the back twice, and still refuse to this day to remove three people that lie with every breath they take and with every key they hit.

So, I've learned this very valuable lesson, use epinions the way you see fit and forget the rest. I post when I want, say what I want, rate the way that I want, put people on my block list like there was no tomorrow and that's it.

Sure I'll never get a title acting the way that I do, BUT I'm still getting just as many (or maybe more) hits than when I was an advisor or editor.

In the end the titles meant nothing. Yeah I know it's symbolic, and the title shows or maybe reflects your commitment, but after you get used to not having it, you learn how little it meant.

I measure my success (or lack of it) by the quality of my writing, my member and non-member hits, and the folks that trust me.

It's all a scam, I mean I've seen people in books that haven't written in two months and they have a title.

Epinions claims to have a system, but it seems to be one that only they understand. I think it's politics. Someone, somewhere within epinions had or has a bone to pick with you.

Not trying to be paranoid, but that's my take on it.

Don't stress it, write when you want, and how you want.

They can't take away your ranking, hits and trusters, so who cares?

over a year ago when I left the site for a year, and no one who had a hat on cared to back me up, or believe me: they don't care, darlin'. This is just a business. You are a commodity. End of story.

I am sorry you feel hurt, but I'm never surprised by anything that management does around here. They didn't consider how writers felt when they wanted to block us from deleting our own opinions, or when they took away income share (as it was back then). I think you believed in them a little too much.

Look at it this way: I don't think you need another stressor in your life, and writing should be fun, and you should post when you want to, not because you have to. I have never wanted a hat, and will never want a hat. The satisfaction I get here doesn't come from the top and it never will.

I hope that gives you a teeny bit of comfort, perspective, whatever, but how they treated you doesn't make you any less of a person. In fact, how they treated you may make you a better person. And it doesn't take away from what kind of a writer you are. In fact (one more time) maybe you'll be an even better writer because it will come out of "want to" instead of "have to".

Anyway, if you want to vent, or just want to talk, you're always welcome to drop me a line.

You're not a TR anymore? WTF? There are people who haven't written for much longer and still keep their hats. All I can say is I'm sorry (you're one of my top reviewers, if that's any consolation. hehe) and encourage you to try and earn it back. Besides I'm behind on my pop a little bit. :)

Well, I guess I should have expected this seeing as lil' ol' me got a hat.

Hi Modern,

Basically it comes down to a numbers game. I didn't post as many as others did during the review period. Now that I know that all that the selection process is, I will be happy to post a bazillion reviews regardless of my personal feeling of quality :). Kristina
