This liquor is very sweet and creamy to taste. I love it in several mixed drinks. It almost makes drinking like having a good dessert. Compared to dessert it is almost like having a mousse pie or silk cake. Very smooth going down.
Bailey's Irish Creme is very complimentary
Bailey's is very versatile. It can be drank in a shot, on the rocks, or in a mixed drink. It is good as a shot for those of us who don't care to do shots. It actually tastes good going down, and leaves me without having to cringe afterwards.
To be honest though if i were to drink it straight I would prefer to have it on the rocks. Me and hot alcohol just don't mix. Or if I am doing shots with friends I will usually chill my shot glass. This is done by putting an ice cube in the shooter and filling it with water and letting it chill for about thirty seconds. While the liquor is very creamy and great tasting it just goes down easier with a little chill to it.
Several of my favorite drinks are made with baileys. The first being a Screaming Orgasim. This is made with Kahlua, Baileys and amaretto. This is a shot drink, but the variation that I enjoy the most is to put the three liquors in a highball glass over ice and add half and half. This is almost like having a milk shake.
The great thing about baileys is that it is creme based so half and half added to any shot made with baileys can turn it into a great mixed drink.
The most popular shot is the slippery nipple, or buttery nipple. This is made with a half shot of buttershots and a half shot of bailey's. Also great for bacholorette party's is the awefamaous Blow ***, this is simply the above stated recipe with whipped cream added on the top.
If you are a coffee drinker and want Irish Creme coffee, just add a shot of bailey's to your coffee instead of regular creamer. Just make sure to microwave your coffee for about thirty seconds before adding the baileys or it will curdle.
The morning after
While I thouroughly enjoy Bailey's there is a down side to it. If you are at the bar drinking to get drunk I would not recommend Baileys as your main drink. As with anything creme based you will have a very bad stomach ache in the morning. It is just like eating a rich creamy dessert all night.
If you are heavily drinking I would recommend just doing a few shots. Otherwise the porcelin god will not be very friendly.
Cost comparison, flavor comparison
Baileys is rather exspensive about 18.00 for a liter. You do get what you pay for the flavor is deeper and the after taste is wonderful. On the other hand there is a product called Cask and Creme, that is about eight dollars cheaper and has the same wonderful flavor. This is the only off brand of irish creme that I would recommend though. The other more popular off brand is Saint Brendon's Irish Creme. There is a very bitter taste to it. The flavor reminds me of cheap whisky with irish coffee creamer added. If you can't find the Cask and Creme stick to Baileys.
