Vegetarian, the V word
Aug 20 '03 (Updated Dec 07 '07)
The Bottom Line With all these people trying to loose weight in the world today its comical to hear about the latest trendy diet.
Vegetarian, the V word, when spoken to some people evokes a look of disgust. There are a hundred reasons to not eat meat and quite a few reasons to, but one thing is certain: a lot of people hate vegetarians.
I think its mostly due to the falsely assumed belief all vegetarians think that meat eaters are murders, and so the reciprocal hate thing is defense. This couldnt be more so from the truth. I feel sorry for someone who believes the slogan meat is murder because thats a lot of hate at a very large body of people.
With all these people trying to loose weight in the world today its comical to hear about the latest trendy diet. Its simple people, burn more calories than you take in. To loose weight you can either burn more or take in less but doing both is probably the best idea.
Burning
Do something fun, shit, was that so hard to figure out. Make it a regular part of your scheduled day. Do it with a friend for an hour after work. Take a walk with your life partner before work. Take up a sport, learn how to roller blade, play some tennis. Do something other than rush to work, and rush home. Rushing is not a sport unless youre a defensive back and if so youre trying to gain weight.
Taking in less
The toughest part, the sickest joke is that things that taste good are usually bad for you. But as far as calories go, the most calorie dense food is meat. So when you eat it you could be eating much more non-meat food resulting in the same energy intake. If you cut out meat youll no doubt need to eat more to feel the same level of fullness. Whos complaining there? You get to eat more.
The hardest part is committing to no more meat once youve done that its pretty easy to maintain it in this day and age. You can go to any restaurant these days; even McDonalds has a veggie burger.
There are lots of other benefits like my skin got a lot better. My aunt, the oldest in a family of five, has been a vegetarian for 20 years and looks the youngest. Youre promoting a sustainable lifestyle, which is something Im not going to get into because wed be here all day, but its environmentally friendly. Youll be reducing the risk of all kinds of health problems.
Honestly, do you have sharp claws and jagged teeth? What makes us think we are meat eaters? We come from herbivores (apes); all our essential proteins and amino acids are available to us in plants. But meat is tasty and available and I understand that all Im trying to say is its not necessary for survival. You dont have to commit to a vegetarian diet the rest of your life, try it like you try your Atkinson or protein diets and see how you feel.
