Pros:Great pictures, can plug in SmartFlash cards and print without a computer,
Cons:A little slow (faster when printing with a computer)
The Bottom Line: Great for printing from your digital camera's memory card. A little slow, but the great quality pictures are worth the wait!
I have to admit that I've only had this printer for a few days, but I've printed at least 100 pictures already so I feel that I can write a fairly accurate review. I had been looking for a good quality printer that would print directly from my digital camera's SmartFlash card. My sister has a Kodak brand printer, but we weren't satified with it (I will try to review that printer in the next few weeks). After seeing some test prints, and seeing some of the other features, I decided to purchase this printer.
After heavy use this week, I have discovered some good and bad points about this printer. However, overall I am satisfied with this purchase. The weakest point (in my opinion) is the speed. The printer is rather slow, especially when printing without a computer. However, the photo quality is definitely worth the wait. I printed samples from the Epson printer and my HP 970Cse printer (http://www.epinions.com/cmd-review-5A90-214BB556-39EDF666-prod4). The photo quality from the Epson far surpasses the HP (I used identical settings, identical paper, and photo ink on both samples).
Since then, I have made almost 100 prints from both my digital camera and scanned images that I have been saving for months. I have gone through almost a whole pack of Glossy Photo Paper and haven't ran out of ink yet. Another thing I must mention is to make sure that you have the right media selected before printing. I printed on glossy photo paper, but had the computer set for plain paper and the image came out with lines.
The printer is easy to use, especially when coupled with a digital camera with a Smart Card. There are optional adaptors available for other kinds of memory cards used by other digital cameras. There is a quick reference sheet that can help you get your prints out in a matter of minutes. After setting up the printer, it was literally a matter of seconds before we were printing our first pictures. Hooking the printer up to the computer is equally easy. The printer is USB, but you should note that the cable is not provided. (Luckily I had one that I could use.) There is a program included "Film Factory" that allows you to retouch and select rolls of film to work with. I am not impressed with this program just to print pictures, but it is a good way to organize your digital pictures by roll.
Another point I need to make is the price of the ink. The photo quality ink is considerably cheaper than other brands. They also claim to be archival safe. You can also use an optional paper roll to make printing 4x6 pictures more economical (no wasted paper).
Overall: The quality of the photos are great for this price range of a printer. I have been greatly impressed with the ease of use of this printer. Obviously, I haven't used it for very long so I'm sure I will learn more about it. I will update this opinion as I find out more.
