My nomination

The Bottom Line Doubt that Jeff will see this, but again, thanks from the bottom of my heart.

You know, I don't know who else would think much of this nomination. I really haven't heard his name much in my time, but the guy who I want to see with this honor: Jeff Clow, bonies7.

Sure, you can point out that he's been inactive for nearly 2 years. And he never really inserted himself heavily into huge things on the site. Why do I nominate him?

Well, partly because he was my guidepost when I first started here (and I'm no spring chicken on this site). He was the first person who read my reviews. And he rated them. He also got his wife to read and rate my works, and I in turn read his.

What I saw in his works, I was awed. I thought I could get by with simple, capsule-sized reviews. When I saw what he put out, I was awakened to the potential that this site had. Not only that, but I realized that my stuff would be much better if I could do the same.

And thus it began in earnest for me. I wrote not to emulate his style, but to recognize it and try to show that I could add in a similar manner, but yet one of my own. Moreover, when I began to have newbies ask me about improving writing style, I directed them to his reviews, so that they could potentially grasp it as I have.

To be honest, he and I didn't speak much, but what correspondance he did send was unfailingly polite and kind. If there was never a bonies7, there wouldn't be a 32_Footsteps to this day, and while there are plenty who would argue that this would be a good thing, I think that my presence is validated in the end.

I can understand that he no longer has the passion for the site, which I understand as well. It's difficult to maintain that level of passion for so long; it burns out the heart, the mind, and potentially even the soul. But even in that, he stands as an example - he knew when he couldn't muster that emotional strength anymore, and stepped back rather than be a drain. I applaud that.

I might be the only one who thinks Jeff belongs in this level (I'm sure many people are wondering why Poseidon and PTiemann weren't my nominees), but I'll say this, and it's oddly true - Jeff, without you, the Video Games section of this site would be radically different. It wasn't just me, but quite a few people in the section that learned from you, partly because I pointed them your way, and they in turn inspired others. Not many people can claim to have influenced an entire section of the site like that. Take a bow.
