I have utilized Drugstore.com numerous times for buying OTC items. However, I use it more frequently for the purchase of prescription medications.
REASONS TO SHOP AT DRUGSTORE.COM
1. Established Store. This site has been around for at least two years and has an excellent track record.
2. Dependability. Every time I have shopped with drugstore.com, I have received my items within a few days.
3. Economical. The prices at this site are similar to those found in traditional brick and mortal drug and discount stores.
4. Selection. I have been AMAZED at the wide variety of items for sale. They seem to have all of the brands one would commonly find in brick and mortal stores plus a few others that are harder to find.
5. Wonderful Promotions. I have been absolutely impressed with some of the promotions drugstore.com has exhibited through the years. Right now, newcomers can receive free shipping. Additionally, they regularly offer several "free with purchase offers". I can remember getting free tote bags, first aid kits, t-shirts, etc. For example, right now you can get a free box of Luna bars with purchase of Yoga Essentials Props Set. They also regularly have some excellent sales.
6. Excellent Customer Service. I have contacted customer service once and my daughter has contacted them several times. We were both very pleased with the assistance they provided.
7. "Your List" sections. You can make up a list of all of the items you commonly use. I make up mine one night when i had insomnia and needed something to do. Then when you are ready to place an order, you can head right to that list and then choose the items you are currently needing.
8. Privacy. For those who are uncomfortable with purchasing various personal products (i.e., condoms or vibrators) in the store, one can reduce their embarrassment with buying them from drugstore.com.
9. On-Line Coupons. Drugstore.com almost always has some on-line coupons available.
10. Convenient. I am able to get the products I need without leaving my home. This is especially helpful for times when I am sick. Also, they do offer express delivery. This can be worth the additional cost when sick and unable to leave the home.
DRUGSTORE.COM DEPARTMENTS
Medicine Cabinet.
This department sell items for colds and allergies, digestion aids, diabetic supplies, family planning, first aid items, incontinence supplies, pain relievers, braces, etc.
Beauty and Spay
Make up, beauty tools, fragrances, skin care products, and other similar items can be found here. Drugstore.com carries a full line of Philosophy products.
Nutrition and Wellness
This is THE place to find vitamins and herbal supplements. Additionally, once can find diet aids, sports nutritional products, yoga aids, and various products for intimacy.
Personal Care
Included in this department are baby care items, deordorants, soaps, shower gels, feminine care products, oral hygiene items, suntan lotions, etc. Also, once can find a variety of travel products including travel cases and travel sized products.
Pharmacy
This is obviously the place where one can order medications and receive information about various drugs. What I really like is that you can check the price on a wide variety of prescription medications and check for drug interactions. This is extremely handy. By checking the price of both the 50 mg. and 100 mg. variety of a certain medication I take, I discovered that I could get a SIGNIFICANT reduction in price if I bought the 100 mg. tablets. So, I e-mailed the pharmacist and asked him/her if it would be OK to cut the pills in half. Within a few hours, I received an e-mail stating that one could do this with this medication and there was even a slit on the pill to facilitate dividing it in half. So, I had my physician write out a prescription for the larger dose.
Specialty Stores
Most of the items in this section can be found elsewhere. However, I like how they arrange the products here. There are sections for baby bloom, clinical skin conditions, home spa, illuminations (candles), salon, sexual well-being, weight management, natural store, Philosophy, bath & body, and GNC Live Well Store. I especially like the natural store where one can readily located natural health care products.
WHAT I DON'T LIKE ABOUT DRUGSTORE.COM (AND OTHER ON-LINE DRUGSTORES)
Manufacturer's Coupons. These stores do not (perhaps cannot) accept manufacturer's coupons. I would like to see them allow us to be able to buy the products and charge us full price. Then, if we could send in the coupons and have the value of the coupon be credited to our account. I would be MUCH more likely to buy over the counter items from this store, if that could be arranged.
Cost of Shipping. I don't know if anything could be done about this but shipping can get very expensive. However, so can the gas used to get to stores.
