The Bottom Line Christmas films and films with memorable Christams moments are among the best in motion picture history. My favorite are:
TOP TEN CHRISTMAS FILMS 10.A Tree Grows in Brooklyn- Not a true Christmas movie, but who can forget the scene where the two children go out to get their Christmas tree. Not to mention that heartwarming mood that the entire picture creates makes anyone think of Christmas whether its summer, winter, spring, or fall. 9. Remember the Night- An underrated Christmas flick, Barbara Stanwyck is a shoplifter and Fred MacMurray is a lawyer who brings her home over Christmas recess. He falls in love with her, of course, in this charming romantic comedy/drama. 8. The Shop Around the Corner- Again, not a Christmas movie, but the films closing scenes, taking place on Christmas Eve, tell a grand tale of love, redemption, and Christmas bliss. I can think of no other film that gives off such a Christmas-esque mood. 7. Home Alone- It has rightfully earned its place among all these classics. I find that this can put me into the Christmas mood after the first ten minutes. A comedy about robbery and separation, it never fails to delight young or old. 6. The Bishops Wife- Three Oscar-winning stars, David Niven, Cary Grant, and Loretta Young, in the story of a young bishop whose marriage is in trouble until a kind angel comes and helps the couple out. A classic. A Jehovahs Witness told me this was his favorite Cary Grant movie. 5. A Christmas Story- Ho, ho ho! says Santa as he kick his fan down the Christmas slide. Youll shoot your eye out! everyone tells him when he tells them that he wants a gun for Christmas! Youll love this movie! Im telling you! And if you really love it, you can watch it for a whole twenty-four hours since TBS (I THINK) has an annual Christmas marathon of this picture. 4. Christmas in Connecticut- Perhaps the most heartwarming of all the Christmas pictures. Barbara Stanwyck is Americas most popular columnist. Her monthly column is all about her life in Connecticut, her baby, her husband, and her wonderful cooking skills. The only problem is that she has been making it all up. She has no farm, husband, baby, or cooking skills. So when her publisher arranges for a soldier to come visit her on Christmas, she is in a bit of a pickle, wouldnt you say? 3. A Christmas Carol- Alastair Sim, the Scrooge of a lifetime! The best verson of the Dickens story an absolute gem deserves to be seen all twelve months of the year! 2. Miracle on 34th Street- Is Macys new Santa Claus the real McCoy or a lunatic who should be in a sanitarium? Were about to find out, because the state of New York has put him on trial! Maureen OHara, John Payne, Natalie Wood, Thelma Ritter, Edmund Gwenn, and William Frawley (Fred from I Love Lucy) are all fabulous in this Christmas classic. 1. Its a Wonderful Life- You guessed it! How could anything else be number 1? Frank Capras Christmas story about the value of a single life is not singularly a Christmas picture, but the opening and closing scenes, set on Christmas Eve, are the most famous, and most powerful. Not to be missed! |
