Bang For The Buck
Pros:Good quality, good acting, and interesting storyline
Cons:Slow pace to climax, and a teen movie feel in a few places.
The Bottom Line: Disturbia is an exciting movie worth seeing in theaters. I would recommend the movie.
Ill try to make this pretty spoiler free as I personally hate any spoilers.
Kale (Shila LaBeouf ) is sentenced to house arrest and tragically loses his Xbox subscription and TV. Boredom soon sets in and the teen takes to spying on his neighbors. He starts to suspect one if them is a serial killer. Using everyday electronics Kale, his best friend Ronnie and Ashley, the girl next door, band together to spy on the man. Is his neighbor a dangerous criminal or is cabin fever getting the best of the teen?
Disturbia starts out strong, the story then slows down for some development between Kale and Ashley, his beautiful new neighbor, then builds to the exciting climax. Allow me to be a little nitpicky for the moment, in the film Kale has a couple different video cameras he uses to keep watch on Mr. Turner. In some scenes he zooms in way too much making for a very fuzzy picture. Ill grant that its a great technique which mimics reality, since the natural reaction is to zoom in, but I felt that in at least one scene maybe two it was a bit much. Someone as tech savvy as Kale appeared to be would have backed off a little bit.
I enjoyed this movie. The storyline was interesting and suspenseful in that it kept one guessing what was going to happen. There were a couple scenes which had that "done before" sort of feel, but they weren't major parts. It was nice to see Shila LaBeouf in a new sort of role, he did a good job and I look forward to seeing him in future films. The supporting acting was very good too.
Ill give the quality of the movie a 4 out of 5. Quality being the quality of the lighting, audio, acting etc. The movie as a whole Ill give a 4 out of 5 as well. I feel the downsides are the slow pace in the middle and had a little bit of a teen movie sort of feel in the middle.
