For those who don't have time to shop...there's Eddie Bauer Online

As I mentioned in an earlier epinion, I'm a web shopper. It's neither because I'm a shopping obsessive nor a web obsessive. It's because my time is extremely limited and I prefer to use it NOT shopping. While I don't buy a lot of clothes, I do have to buy enough to work in an office surrounded by people every day. I also require the occasional t-shirt and pair of shorts.
Eddie Bauer fills all these needs. The beauty of the store (online and off) is that it stocks an excellent selection of very high quality, durable and fashionable clothing that fit REAL body types, that last incredibly well and that are reasonably priced. Eddie Bauer clothing is perfect for work and for leisure.
What else can you get at the Eddie Bauer online store? Well, there are home accessories, some furniture, jewelry, some outdoor equipment (like backpacks and compasses) and excellent outerwear for the whole family.
Now for the web site.
When you arrive at the site, you can choose between Men's, Women's and Children's clothing. The Children's site is new, and has a small selection of fairly nice, if slightly expensive clothing. The Men's and the Women's selections are much more extensive.
Once you choose an area, you're given another set of options: these include sweaters, pants, skirts, dresses, accessories, t-shirts, shorts and pants. When you choose one of these you're given a list of every single product, and whether it's on sale. You also have the option of getting a "thumbnail" photo of each option. From these, you can click on the item in which you're interested.
When you click on an item, you're given a large photo of the clothing item, a list of the colors, and a menu where you choose the size, color, and whether you want it in "petite" or "regular" (where applicable). You're also given the option of seeing the item on a model, and of changing the color of the item on the model. These are great features since they give you a much better idea of what the clothing REALLY looks like.
When you decide to add something to your shopping basket, it appears on an itemized bill. YOu can then check out or continue shopping.
As with the Land's End site, I tend to buy only what's on sale. And several times a year the online store features a special sale, where 20 or 30 percent off is added to sale prices available in stores. To get only sale price listings, you have only to click on the red "sale" icon on store's homepage.
What else do I like about the site? They have excellent customer service (I've returned items and had them credited to my credit card with no trouble whatsoever) and I've also exchanged several items.
I also love being able to access my customer history online. It lists what you've purchased and when, whether it was returned or exchanged, and when your credits were posted to your card.
Like L.L. Bean and Lands End, Eddie Bauer will allow you to return a product at any time, for any reason. This is an excellent feature, and one I used for a pair of sunglasses, which broke a full 2 years after purchase.
Items arrive in about 5 days, and for an extra fee, customers can receive their purchases overnight. The site accepts all major credit cards and a variety of coupons (for which special codes are needed).
What don't I like about the web site?
Though you can sign on and create a customer account, you have to re-enter your credit card number every time. I find this annoying, since I don't always have my card handy.
I also find it takes longer than I'd like to use features like changing the color of the product onscreen, and changing the parameters of an item you're ordering (i.e. from regular to petite, or from green to blue).
These, however, are small prices to pay for the excellent quality, good pricing and extreme convenience of this online store.
Once you've signed on and created an account, you'll also receive a heads-up on special sales. Some people don't want the extra mail and can request NOT to receive it. I actually like the warnings.
The bottom line: if you need to shop for clothing on line, the Eddie Bauer online store is an excellent option.
