Written: Aug 06 '01
The Bottom Line: This book is a must have for any serious student of God's Word and also a great addition to any persons Biblical library.

The Thompson Chain-Reference Bible is virtually a Biblical Library plus a Bible all in one package. It is designed so you can track over 8,000 topics & themes through the Bible. It allows forward and backward references that are linked together to simplify learning. The Thompson has over 100,000 marginal references giving you an even more in-depth way to research. All themes and topics can be found in the alphabetical & numerical indexes. The Thompson Chain-Reference Bible makes it easy to search & explore the Word of God.

The Thompson incorporates over 70 features giving the reader an in-depth look at the Word of God. The Thompson helps the reader gain an appreciation and deeper understanding of the Word through its in-depth guides and helps. Some of the features of study include:

· General Index
· Principles of Bible Study
· Index of chain topics
· Bible readings
· Outline Studies of the Bible

· Archaeological Supplement
· Hebrew Calendar

The General Index gives a complete alphabetical listing of all the numbered topics in the helps including the subjects, events, names etc., that are incorporated within the maps, articles and charts.

Principles of Bible Study are a short explanation of the importance of Bible Study and methodology used in studying the Word of God using the Thompson.

Index of chain topics gives the explanation and order of individual listings numbered and where to locate them within the topical listings. An example would be “Abarim is found under #2 (Abraim, Mountains of) and under #2424 (in the listing of Mountains and Hills).”

Bible Readings cover a vast variety of subjects for use in devotions, sermons, and evangelical meetings of all types. Some listings in this section include:
· Church Analogies
· Death
· Family cares
· Life’s purpose
· Spirit of Christ

Outline Studies of the Bible breaks down into a study by books of the Bible and different eras. Following are a few of the topics covered:
· Seven editions of the Divine Law is a drawing illustrating God’s method of revelation and publication of the law.
· The Historical Bridge spans the gap between the Old and New Testaments
· Origin and growth of the English Bible
· Illustrational charts of the Messianic Stars and Temple of truth
· A Condensed Outline of both the Old and New Testament
· Analyses of the Books of the Bible presenting a brief look at each book of the Bible

Character Studies look briefly at prominent characters of the Bible including outlines of the Apostles, portraits of Christ by Isaiah, John, Paul, Peter, and Apocalyptic portraits of Christ. It also includes a calendar of the Christian era and prophecies about Jesus.

Bible Harmonies and Illustrated Studies include life trees, maps, outlines, and charts. This section helps to equip the reader with biographical information in a comparative manner of the lives of Jesus, Moses and Paul.

Archaeological Supplement contains information pertaining to Biblical history and findings over the years documenting the proof of events and people of Biblical times. Some of the areas of study covered include:
· The dead sea scrolls
· Calvary (Golgotha)
· Bethany
· Babylon
· Ephesus
· Jericho
· Jerusalem
· Zion

The Thompson Chain-Reference Bible is as I stated earlier one of the most complete libraries of Biblical study within the covers of a single book. I have found it to be difficult to use at first, but with time and actual reading in the manner it was meant to be read, it became a valuable asset to my walk with God. I have two paperback versions and leather bound one. I have both the KJV and the NIV.

It is rather costly running anywhere from $35.00 for paperback upwards to over $100 for leather bound.
