No I Will Not Make Out With You! (Twix109's Ask A Teenager Anything W/O)

Wow. I think you may now know more about me then my own parents. That's kind of sad, actually.

Awesome write-off. I must say that MiMi369's questions really pissed me off! As a 27 year old who still feels like a teenager in many ways, but doesn't have to endure quite the level of stereotyping that I did as a kid, I understand your frustration. But I think you handled those questions very well.

Off to read more of your reviews. Peace. ~Ryan

Fine,

So I did the math problems in my head. I'm an engineer; what do you want from me? For the record, even though I'm 21, I would have done them even at age 16.

1) 20 caramels, 10 creams

2) 24 minutes

3) 50 mph, 300 miles

4) 6 pieces (Hey, you got it!)

5) 2 oz (if the measurement is by volume)

This was a great read. You fielded the questions with grace. It amazes me how little has changed since I was a teenager in terms of parent/offspring relations. I hope you totally ignore your teachers who advise you against writing...This is honest, humble, insightful writing and is needed. The alternately humorous and sad and hopeful grooves made it real. Good job.

answers! I enjoyed them not only because most of them are completely true, but because I would have said the exact thing (I guess that's also because they're true). That's pretty much the reason behind me not being apart of this write-off. The other reason is because I'm too lazy to answer all of those questions.

not about the long lost son part, but that your psychological warfare answer had me rolling on the floor.. I have read a few of the other entries in this write-off, but yours was by far the best.. I laughed, I cried, I almost wet my pants a few times.. :)

Great job! If nothing else, you've proven that wisdom isn't necessarily an indication of age.. I personally found a few of the questions insulting too.. Why do people tend to think that teenagers are morons? Hell, there are a lot of adults out there with less common sense than their juniors.. For that matter, I know a lot of those adults personally..

Thankfully, you managed to prove that they're all ignorant.. Again, great job!

Take Care,
Melanie

During campaigns I deal with that rapidfire "question-attack" thingy and it is no small pain in the ass. You answered these questions with grace and tact.

["As far as music goes, the seventies are pretty much my favourite decade, simply because of all the great classic rock albums that it spawned. On the flipside, it was also the age of disco, but I can overlook that. Clothes, cars, people, well, I could really care less, to be completely honest. It’s all about the rock and roll."]

NICE! You stole that response right out of my head, 'lessparrot. What a shiny soundbyte; "Clothes, cars, people, well, I could really care less, to be completely honest. It’s all about the rock and roll." That is timeless... Forgive me, but I may have to steal it.

I’ve noticed that a lot of times it’s the dumber kids who get hired because they’re too dumb to bother defying orders based on principle. They’re easier to control.

You can say that again! I didn't get my first job until 17 months after I graduated.. but it was hardly due to a lack of trying. Never thought of it that way before, but that makes a lot of sense.

You're gonna go a long way, man.. keep the faith!

Ahh, a joke.

Somehow I knew that would be the answer. Hopefully it 'worked' better in
its original context.

I seriously doubt that Mimi369 thinks every teenage driver is a time-bomb
waiting to go off. Her phrasing of her third question should give you some
miniscule appreciation of the origins of her questions.

But seriously, what troubles me most in all your 'answers'...
"6. How will you change your part of the world?

I won’t. Hey, at least I'm realistic.
"

I find that damn sad. I can only imagine how you must find it.

Juxtaposition, perhaps, but it was intended as a joke. In fact, it was a quote directly from a film.

you said...
"You know what, this question seriously p*sses me off. I could answer this question, but maybe you should stop making broad generalizations about what teenagers are and what we do. If you had associated any other group of people with your question (Asians, blacks, etc.,), you would have come off sounding totally ignorant and bigoted. So how come it’s alright to make a generalization like this when it comes to teenagers?"

which you followed later with...
"Old people, while slow and dangerous behind the wheel, can still serve a purpose!"

Interesting juxtaposition.

And I would argue that insurance companies set rates based on statistics rather than perceptions.

Thank you. This is the third of these i've read - but the first i've been able to avoid fuming long enough to finish - and it's about time someone called Chrome and Mimi out for the insulting nature of so many of their questions. That said, you do an amazingly thoughtful job of taking a lot of honest questions that could've been personally irritating (e.g. the ones expecting you to serve as Voice of Teen North America on drugs and sex) and dealing with them thoughtfully ... and even, on a couple of more insulting ones, of explaining teen behavior in calm rational fashion.

For the record, a new study by the Alan Guttmacher Institute, which the Onion did not make up, shows (1) that teens are engaging in radically more sexual activity than they did even in my H.S. days a dozen years ago, (2) but not so much that I would ever had gotten laid even today, (3) and meanwhile, teen pregnancy is going down. Your generation is the smartest one about birth control yet, by far, which will be good news for you someday.

It's nice to hear your judgment that only losers use drugs regularly. At my school, many of the coolest ones did. At least, they started out cool; if anyone ever tells you that marijuana isn't addictive or that it doesn't dull people's imaginations, i've been friends with people who were proofs that yes, it is and yes, it does.

Finally, i do enjoy being quoted. Cheers!

first one of these w/o entries I've read. It's fascinating. My kids are still very young, and people are always saying "oh, watch out for those teen years". As a result, it's sort of become something I fear. But not so much now. And I agree with Doc, the questions are really quite revealing in and of themselves.

May I ask one more? What should your parents have done differently when you were younger to avoid the alienation you feel from them now?

3. Do you want children someday? If so how many?

I hate kids. I truly do. I see them running around and I just want to slap them (I’ve mentioned this a few times before). I honestly don’t think that I would make a very good role model/father figure at all.

OMG you are hilarious. Since I want to work with kids and you hate them. The crazy parties you go to sound like the ones I go to. Nice job doing this..even though I had to push you a little. We have a lot in common ad you definitely brightened up my day. I really appreciate that you participated.

Thanks again,

This w/o told me as much about some of our adults by what questions they chose to ask, as it did about you teens with your responses.
