i totally see where you are coming from. i went to the doctor 2 days ago to ask her about relief from stress and sweating and she was a total cow about it, rolling her eyes, being condescending etc...she gave me a beta blocker, which lowers your blood pressure and can ease some of the symptoms of anxiety (such as blushing, sweating, shaking) but that was more for my anxiety rather than anything. i've started my first proper job ever (i'm 21) and going there on a tube has been a nightmare. my face goes completely red and wet with sweat (not dripping wet, thank god). the weird thing is that my face and eyes get a bit puffy too. i have a lot of problems with anxiety too SOOOO you can imagine that it only gets worse over time. somebody actually asked me today whether or not i needed a seat. very thoughtful, but really humiliating too...about 5 people turned around to see what the problem was and the guy seemed to think i was about to pass out or anything.

i hate being like this. i can only wear clothes once and need to keep washing them, cause i can't stand wearing smelly or dirty clothes. i get dressed up, do my hair and makeup, make a huge effort, and by the time i'm at work/uni/party i feel like crap. i really understand where you are coming from and its reassuring to know that there are others like me out there. we should all meet up one day, in a room filled with air conditioners...or in the north pole. actually it wouldn't really make a difference cause i sweat EVEN in the winter, as long as there is something touching the skin of my underarms i sweat. arrrgh!

Hey Hipyx,
I signed up on Epinions specifically to write this comment and now realized that it is 2 years later. I could have written the comment that you wrote. Seriously. What sucks is that I start a new job on Monday and have the same problem you do...and its getting worse! My palms are starting to sweat and I can feel my face getting red and my upper lip sweats. I have also had all the tests and they are all negative. I have looked into ETS but I don't want the side effects. I will try this Maxim stuff but it sounds just like "Certin-Dry," a deoderant with Aluminum Chloride...makes it very itchy because the aluminum goes into the pores and stops them up.

Just wondering if the stuff you are using is still working or if you have discovered something else.

I really think that this problem is due to Anxiety though(not that your crazy...BIG difference!), and you probably dont feel it because you are used to the problem but that is probably the reason you cant sleep.

Good LucK!

sweating (Reply to this comment)

my name is david. I am 15 years old, living in Australia. I have the same problem since i was 13. I excessivly sweat everyday. It is really bad when i go out and go to school. I always have soaking wet underarms whenever i am sittin camly in class or just out walking with my girlfriend. I too went to my doctor and came back with nothing that could at leats ease the sweating a little. He told me that he couldent give me anything because it would be too strong and i wouldent be able to cope. Which i understand. But since then i have been really depressed and down. I never go out, i always stay home, i have bad moods and i have lost my some of my best friends becuase i never go out. I have even dropped out of school because o sweating. I couldent cope anymore. I sweat under my arms, feet, hands, head, and even in my pants. This is really bad. I am now 15 and dont know what to do. I hope anyone could help me or tell me of something that could ease the sweating.

Yes, I did go to a GP, and I also wondered why he didn't refer me to a specialist. I don't really have the fundage right now (college student) to go to a specialist, but I will eventually. Thanks for your advice about the treatments. See, I learned more about it from epinions than my doctor...isn't that crazy? LOL

Thanks for your words, it just bothers me that he's still there, probably mistreated/diagnosing others. I would like to show him this article, but I don't think I have guts. LOL.. thanks for reading! later

your doctor is such an idiot. And frankly, I'm surprised he didn't refer you to a dermatologist (sounds like you went to a GP?).

The surgery is pretty extreme (they basically sever the nerves) and you'll live the rest of your life without any feeling under your arms.

There are other alternatives. Certain allergy medicines may help or you could get botox injections but they are expensive. The "shock therapy" you referred to (Drionics) works great -it's just a pain in the ass to keep up on it.

Whatever you decide to do, good luck. And don't go back to that doctor again.

This seems to be a common theme, when a doctor doesn't know what is wrong, they would rather treat it as something else they do understand rather than admit they don't have a clue.

Sorry to hear your doctor was such a jerk: it's his problem, not yours. You should let him know how you feel, by just printing this article and showing it to him if you can't find the right words.

Good luck,

I'm sorry about your brother, I know how he feels! ;) I also saw that episode of Golden Girls, I wish I had the opportunity to tell off my Dr. as well. Thanks for your kind words and for reading. Later!

...has dealt with excessively sweaty hands and feet his whole life. Not a great thing for a business man who shakes hands frequently with clients.

I hope that the solution that you've found continues to help you and the medical world will soon realize that just because they don't know what something is, doesn't mean it isn't real. (Makes me think of a episode of Golden Girls and Bea Arthur having Chronic Fatigue Syndrome...she got to tell the dismissive Dr. off :) )

Best of luck to you and don't give looking for a more permanent cure.....kath
