You're a great mom! With my "only" now 22, I miss those birthday parties. Like you, I went to great pains in planning them. Loved reading about yours!
My best,
Deborah~

Re: No way you are Mom to a Teen! (Reply to this comment)

Yes Steve, It's true... Mom to a teen I am. Funny seems like not very long ago that I was a teen youth leader and my oldest was merely a preschooler!
Ugh with regard to the driving aspect. I tried to tell her she could wait to she is 18, that wasn't received well.
However thus far she has been very responsible and more mature than the majority of her peers. So I suspect she will do well with the driving thing.
Take care Steve!
Hugs~~ Lisa :)

Thanks for the comment Peggy!
Oh I hear you with regard to a) being out of the baby stages (remember all the equipment that had to be toted along?!) and to... b) the emotions that go along with our little ones growing up!
My youngest just turned 10 last month. I have noticed so many changes in her and know it won't be long before I have two teens.
Take care and thanks again for the comment!

Wow! That had to have been a wonderful party! (for the boys anyway) What a terrific idea! I was thinking about the fact that if I had a slumber party for my girls, it would need to be at a hotel.
Teens certainly can be challenging to please. I was certainly glad the teens enjoyed both of her parties!
Thanks for dropping by the comment section and for sharing a wonderful party idea!

I'm in denial (Reply to this comment)

that my oldest will be 10 this year. I still remember my 10th birthday party (it was a wonderful surprise party).
I think I will freak once he comes a teenage and his voice changes.
Nonetheless, I don't miss the baby years. I saw a woman yesterday (late 30s/early 40s my guess) with her first child--a 9 month old. And I thought I was old when I had my second at 36.
Great info here.

Teens can be hard to please (Reply to this comment)

My son is 14 and for his birthday, I rented a couple rooms at a expensive hotel, hooked up X-Boxes, and followed the goofy boys around while they swam, got junk food, and played video games all night.
But it was fun and a birthday he won't soon forget. Or maybe it's me who won't forget it because that was one of the pricer birthday parties I have thrown for either of my sons.
I like your idea much better. Maybe for his 15th...

Hi Bonnie:
I'm one of those *Lucky* people who have actually served on 6 separate trials. I think in most states you can request a postponement. I usually postpone every time, as the request date is usually inconvenient. Also, some states have funds to assist with child care costs. Worst case, ask to speak directly to the judge. Good luck!

Excellent ideas! I would have loved this kind of party at that age. What am I talking about, I'd love this kind of party today.... at nearly 40!
Take care,
Mary :)

Hi Bonnie,
They certainly are growing quickly! Amazingly - in comparison to some of her peers - my oldest had no desire to invite boys to either her 13th or 14th b-day parties.
Happy early Birthday to your soon-to-be 10 year old. My youngest turned 10 last month; we will be having her party this month.
My youngest has been to several parties that were for girls and boys. The goodie bags at those included such things as mini-bubble blowers, silly putty, slinkies, mini-play doh, candy, gum, gift certificates to McDonalds, body tattoos.
My oldest daughter gives verbal Thank Yous, my youngest hand delivers them (or mails them if the guest doesn't go to her school or dance classes.
We haven't video taped, as our camcorder broke years ago :(
In my experience parties on Saturdays are more successful.
With regard to jury duty, you can ask to be excused, or do as some of my friends do, and show up with kids in tow.
Urgh with regard to no credit cards, but yet that can be a blessing. Perhaps you could obtain a debit card, via a bank account? We went approximately 5 years with merely a debit.
Take care Bonnie and don't over do it!
Hugs~~ Lisa

My son turns 10 next month and we are hoping on a bowling party. Will be the first party for either of my kids that we are having. Going to invite his entire 3rd grade class and undecided on party favors. Been scouting around ebay for ideas.
Did you invite girls only for the party, and if there were boys what were in their goodie bags?
For thank you notes do you mail them or hand out at school?
I need an extra person to help with my other son and was wondering who would do the video taping?
This is still new to us plus the fact that his birthday falls on the week of spring break, so is the party the weekend before or after and on Sat or Sun? Then I hope to get IRS refund before than so we can go to Sea World in San Diego the week of birthday, and need to get there before he turns ten since the price is higher after age nine.
The week after I have jury duty and still no child care. Plus since I filed for bankruptcy I have no credit card and not sure if I can book a party without one and get a room at a Hotel and get train tickets.
So many things to organize.
Bonnie
